22 Chinese aircraft cross Taiwan Strait median line ahead of military drills

Taipei, Aug. 3 (CNA) A total of 27 Chinese military aircraft flew into Taiwan's air defense identification zone (ADIZ) on Wednesday, of which 22 crossed the median line of the Taiwan Strait, according to the Ministry of National Defense (MND).

The incursions took place a day before China's military is set to launch live-fire military drills in six maritime areas near Taiwan, widely seen as retaliation for a visit by U.S. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi to Taiwan.

MND data showed six Shenyang J-11 and 16 Sukhoi SU-30 fighter jets flew across the median line of the Taiwan Strait, while five J-16 jets flew into the southwestern part of Taiwan's ADIZ.

The Chinese military also sent 21 aircraft into Taiwan's southeastern ADIZ on Tuesday, when Pelosi was set to arrive in Taiwan.

On both occasions, Taiwan scrambled a combat air patrol, sent radio warnings, and deployed defense missile systems to track the Chinese military planes, MND said.

Taiwan's defense ministry has published information about such flights since Sept. 17, 2020, amid a rising number of intrusions into the nation's ADIZ by Chinese military planes.

The highest number of incursions reported this year was 39 on Jan. 23, followed by 30 on May 30 and 29 on June 21, MND data showed.

An ADIZ is an area declared by a country to allow it to identify, locate and control approaching foreign aircraft, it is not part of territorial airspace as defined by international law.

This was all worked out in advance between the DNC and the CCP.

This is ALREADY an act of War.

They just forced Taiwan to turn on their defense radar, and now China knows where they are.

The PLA is trying to goad Taiwan into shooting down a PLA aircraft, thus giving them a pretext for a full scale invasion. It has been done many times.

Fixed it.

We will see, won’t we? The Chinese are figuring that they have less than 3 months of Democratic Control to take advantage of, and a senile President that won’t last through his first term. So I think that there is an excellent chance that they might ‘Carpe Diem’ and go ahead and invade while the circumstances are in their favor.

This is ALREADY an act of War.

Uh, no.

The Taiwan Strait is more than 100 miles wide ... which means most of it is international waters. Flying 22 aircraft -- or 2,000 aircraft -- halfway across that body of water is hardly an "act of War."

The hysteria on this website has become comical.

This is all Kabuki Theater, both sides got what they wanted. Pelosi can boast she stood up to China, and China can play their little war game.

Not an act of war unless they actually enter sovereign airspace. The ID zone is not the same.

The CCP espionage operatives have long ago pinpointed defense radars and all other defense assets Taiwan possess.

The only thing being revealed is operational procedures for reaction to the intrusions. The reds will test and fake hoping for complacency then one day BOOM!!

Freedom of Navigation, right to travel international airspace - even the Chicoms have it.

Exactly.

We saw the same hand-wringing hysteria a few years ago when an Iranian warship was "permitted" to pass through the Suez Canal.

The reality was that it would have been a much bigger story if anyone tried to stop it.

Pearl clutching and hand wringing is beginning to disturb me. It is almost like idiots are trying to stir up war fever.

Of course. These flights into the Taiwan ADIZ have been going on deliberately for years, are designed to elicit a response, get the Taiwanese to activate their defensive measures. Chinese gain precise electronic data on Taiwanese defensive systems this way, and can plan counter measures for when the balloon goes up.

The same idiots — even many here on FR — who were Branch Covidians in 2020-2021 and flying Ukrainian flags in 2022 are probably running around now trying to figure out how to make “I Stand with Taiwan” memes to post all over their social media pages.

That’s because Taiwan happens to be a long time ally, strategically vital to the United States and most of the world, and a stable democracy.
Plus China is our damn enemy.

Other than that, why should anyone worry about Taiwan?
