Germany is experiencing a strange decline in births in the first quarter of 2022,

Seems pretty clear that people held off having children in the middle of a pandemic.

Predictable response to economic uncertainty.

At the very beginning of Covid I predicted a surge in births from people being stuck home with nothing else to do.

Was I ever wrong on that one.

But they breed like rabbits during a blackout...

Nice try

Perhaps something else is going on here. Maybe the people in these countries are so ashamed of failing the Branch Covidian IQ test that they can’t bear the thought of explaining their stupidity to their children years from now.

Pfizer own research showed the shot causes miscarriages. You should check the papers out sometime.

The pandemic lockdown was one big, long blackout...

I kinda figured we’d have a baby boom of sorts.

That we haven’t is interesting.

I’m sure the economic nightmare figures in.

But it would be smart to see if there’s anything else involved.

True. In addition, neoliberal policies imply that parents, individuals, and the rest of society are expected to supply ever greater quantities of free capital to businesses. It used to be a single wage earner with a high school diploma could afford to raise a family of four.

Now you are expected to invest in a college education for yourself and your children, pay the taxes for an extended public education system, and in many cases supply equipment (phones, computers, cars) for your employer's use without charge, all while your real wages decline.

My daughter had to get the shot for her job. She had two healthy children prior to this, but after getting the shot, she's had two miscarriages. She is deeply hurt about this.

So no, people haven't stopped trying to have children during the pandemic.
