My decades old solution:

1) No luggage or food.
2) Increase the number and comfort of passengers.
3) Profit.

Allow shoebox sized carry on.
Someone will create InstaLuggage. Picked up at your door, waiting in your room.

I’m not a luggage guy unless there’s a location shoot or travel overseas. I learned early on to hand carry and do it light. Passport, cash, laptop, that’s it. They lose my luggage< i dont care because they’re 99% clothes and they’re replaceable. My uncle who is a retired pilot told me always expect the airline swill lose your luggage.

My friends went to France for a BMX world champion race. (She lost, but it was great to watch). Coming home she they were delayed over 2 days and now all their luggage, including a $6,000 bike, is lost. She put a tag on the bike and it’s 6000 miles away from Las Vegas, where they landed.
