NATO says it's prepared to intervene in Kosovo if ‘stability is jeopardized’

NATO said in a statement Sunday that tensions are on the rise in the northern municipalities of Kosovo and that Kosovo Force Pristina (KFOR) was monitoring the situation closely.

Tensions are again on the rise amid a new government regulation that will compel people entering Kosovo with Serbian IDs to replace them with a temporary document during their stay there.

On Sunday, ethnic Serbs in northern Kosovo — a partially recognized state bordered by Serbia in the Balkans — blocked two key border crossings with Serbia to protest the new rule.

"So, kill more Serbs for no reason?"

How many Serbian refugees do we STILL have in this country? Did any ever go home?

Going to get interesting...NATO has been sitting on their asses for 30+ years since ‘winning’ the Cold War, enjoying their ‘peace dividend’, along with ‘The End of History’.

Russia has been modernizing their military for the past 20 years, and they are a close ally of Serbia.

...we shall see what happens.

If they went back home, they are fools. For going back to where they have to work to eke out an rxistance verus staying over here where everything to live high on the hog is given to them free to them. All they have to do is vote Democrat when required. NATO is ready to bomb some more.

I remember that. That’s why Weasel-y Dork is one of the MSM’s favorite “military” interview.

NATO bombs Serbia for 78 days to create the brand new nation of Kosovo: this is a good thing, because we did it.

Just like Iraq, Syria, Libya, etc: We bomb the poor dumb unenlightened people for their own good.

We only drop "bombs of peace."

I wonder if the Chinese have forgotten their embassy being bombed in Belgrade.

“I wonder if the Chinese have forgotten their embassy being bombed in Belgrade.”

I heard they were using it for spying. Even if true, doesn’t matter, our bombing of that was still a war crime.

Just LOL. Your urge to obfuscate reality is beyond ridiculous. Crimea and East Ukraine happened after Kosovo, hence the precedent applies.
Another question is why you find independent Kosovo acceptable, but not Donbas even as an autonomous region of Ukraine.

NATO bombed Christian Serbia into submission in 1999. And the way I remember this, it was Germany that was the most rabid haters of the Serbs. That the USA/Bill Clinton bombed Serbia due to the zee German demands within NATO. Then the idiot Germans allow in millions of Muslims during the next 20 years

Our airplanes did all the bombing. Without US military participation, the German hate for the Serbs would have gone nowhere. This German hate seems to come from the old Austro-Hungarian Empire that used to control The Balkans.

The Serbs could no longer dominate Kosovo due to being outbred by the Muslim population and by Muslim immigration into Kosovo.

Isn’t it correct to say ethnic cleansing since 1999?

It took decades, but after WW2 up to the 1990s, Serbs got ethnic cleansed out of Kosovo by faster breeding Muslims.

Russia has actually argued that Kosovo is a precedent for acknowledging independence of the Donbass regions.

And as to hypocrisy Russia is definitely not alone. Just in the EU we have for instance Spain and Catalonia, France and Corsica and Bretagne, the Flemish in Belgium etc.

That’s the high-level official after-the-event version.
There is another that says when the British arrived and found the Russians already on the airstrip, they were given the direct order to evict the Russians.
The astute officer on the ground declined to start the shooting war and instead, under a flag of truce (and, critically, sharing a billy of prime British Army Stew*), agreed to a compromise with his Russian opposite: you stay one side of the runway and we’ll keep to the other.

It was only while a reinforced attacking force was being organised that sanity prevailed and that order was rescinded by the top brass.

[* true to form, the Russians had no rations of their own]

Kosovo vs. Serbia — WWIII Edition

https://www.rferl.org/a/kosovo-serbia-border-crossing-blocked-tensions/31967812.html

The dispute over vehicles erupted in September 2021 after Kosovar authorities ordered all drivers entering Kosovo from Serbia to use temporary, 60-day, printed license plates in response to measures in Serbia against drivers from Kosovo that have been in place since 2008, when the country declared independence from Belgrade.

At that time, Serbs from northern Kosovo blocked the Jarinje and Brnjak crossings with vehicles and makeshift barricades, while Kosovo’s government sent in police units and Serbian military jets and helicopters buzzed the border in a show of force.

Serbia does not recognize Kosovo’s independence nor its right to impose rules and regulations such as registering cars and trucks.

Most EU countries recognize Kosovo, though Russia and China, allies of Serbia, do not.

The EU has tried to broker a dialogue between the two Balkans neighbors for over a decade, but so far the efforts have failed to achieve a normalization of ties.

Prime Minister Albin Kurti has said Kosovo will formally apply to become a member of the European Union by the end of 2022 despite concerns over tensions with Serbia, also an EU aspirant
