Alex Jones’ media company Free Speech Systems, which operates the rightwing conspiratorial outlet Infowars, has filed for bankruptcy in the latest in a string of financial maneuvers by the prominent rightwing conspiracy theorist.
The move came at the end of the first week of testimony at a trial in Texas set to determine how much he will have to pay the families of two Sandy Hook elementary school mass shooting victims who sued for defamation and won a default $150m judgment against him.
Jones’ attorney Andino Reynal said the bankruptcy protection filing should not disrupt the trial. The company, he said, wants “to put this part of the odyssey behind us so that we have some numbers” set for damages.
Placing Free Speech Systems under bankruptcy protection comes after Jones was found legally responsible in a separate defamation case in Connecticut, where a group of families sued him over false claims relating to the shooting that claimed the lives of 20 children and six adults.
Already, three smaller companies tied to Jones have already declared bankruptcy. After plaintiffs involved in the Texas and Connecticut lawsuits dropped their claims against them, they exited bankruptcy protection.
On Friday, after the bankruptcy filing was made public, an attorney for the families in the Connecticut case against Jones issued a statement. “Mr Jones has once again fled like a coward to bankruptcy court in a transparent attempt to delay facing the families that he has spent years hurting,” Christopher Mattei said.

Couldn’t happen to a nicer guy.
Was it he himself that is responsible to paying the damages or just his company?
If it’s his company, he can have it off the ground again tomorrow under a new name.
I’m no expert on the law but I think you’re right. He is re-structuring...
Just like the election steal lawsuits. Wasn’t given a trial. I judge just ruled summarily. They turned over 100% of their financial records.
But the judge insists that there MUST be a record of how much revenue each topic generates, but there isn’t.
Also kind of funny how nobody can seem to produce a video of him saying it didn’t happen.
They simply reported on a story published in zero hedge that noted some strange things about the story. And it was really weird watching that dad laugh as he stepped up to the podium.
This is all fun for the people that resent Jones. But rest assured, all other discussion of future events will result in malicious prosecution too.
You don’t like someone who questions globalism and the fact that the pandemic was a scamdemic, shame on you!
Right wing conspiratorial news? How bout the Truth?
Are they trying to make a point there?
Alex Jones has been more right than these commie bastards dishing out the slop for their useful/useless idiots.
They have almost no advertising. Most of their revenue comes from their online store. So if I bought a water filter, some vitamins and a hat, how would anyone know what segment of the show inspired me to do so?
This isn’t like Fox or CNN where at least you could try to attribute a commercial advertiser with a particular segment.
I don’t like loudmouth cults that berate anyone who doesn’t believe them.
Male vitality pill sales have gone limp.
Yes. So what AJ is doing now is re-structuring to protect himself legally from these judgements.
It is probably costing him a hell of a lot in lawyers and legal fees to do this
But the alternative is to be taken down. I dont think he is going to allow that to happen...
Again, I’m not an expert on the law.
Alex Jones is a loudmouth fool, who has fooled other loudmouths for decades.
But there is nothing wrong with being a loudmouth fool. He would argue he is protected under the Constitution.
His accuracy level -far- exceeds even Fox and the rest of the MSM. And even more cool, when wrong he comes back and says what he found out he was wrong about.
But authoritarian Big-Tech, WEF, America does not allow questions.
It’s all fun to go after Alex, but this would be no different than those women caught pulling ballots from under the table, suing the people who made the claim they were engaged in fraud.
I agree. Glad he is protecting the franchise.
“Alex Jones is a loudmouth fool, who has fooled other loudmouths for decades”
By chance do you have a mirror?
I have a wonderful mirror.
And loudmouth is not a word ever used to describe me.
I am sorry your world is driven by folks who feel they have to shout to make their silly ideas seem true.
