But a political era — that of the New Deal Democrats — is coming to its inglorious end.
The University of Chicago’s Institute of Politics has a new poll out, and the numbers are pretty shocking — but not particularly surprising or even discouraging, if you understand the long view.
As it happens, my new book, The Revivalist Manifesto, lays out that long view quite clearly, and you should of course buy your copy today. We’ll get to that in just a minute.
In the meantime, here’s what the poll says:
A majority of Americans say the U.S. government is corrupt and almost a third say it may soon be necessary to take up arms against it, according to a new poll from the University of Chicago’s Institute of Politics.
Two-thirds of Republicans and independents say the government is “corrupt and rigged against everyday people like me,” according to the poll, compared to 51 percent of liberal voters.
Twenty-eight percent of all voters, including 37 percent of gun owners, agreed “it may be necessary at some point soon for citizens to take up arms against the government,” a view held by around 35 percent of Republicans and around 35 percent of Independents. One in five Democrats concurred.

They have a lot more hope than I do for this beleaguered nation.
Things are in a constant state of flux. Its just as possible in 1-2 years the situation looks different.
Our gubmint does not seem capable of self discipline.
Did Rush Limbaugh “ghost”-write this?
I’ll say it, “IT’S WAY, WAY, WAY PAST TIME TO PANIC” !
Yes it is.
However, defeatist mindsets are not what someone should have if there is any hope of change or there to be any strong shelter amidst oncoming strife.
If whistleblowers came forward they would help save our country. Where are they???
Some of this cr** has to be reversed...Particularly the tranny crap...they are taking privacy rights away from ordinary people...they have no such right...it’s ridiculous. Same thing with sports...they have no such right to participate...
Only the right kind of whistleblowers receive protection.
With the entire political class plus the military playing Russian roulette in Ukraine as if there are no rounds in that Russian retaliatory capability and the Chicoms sure to press the DC morons and traitors on Taiwan, we might not be here in two years.
Just my opinion.
Bottom Line...
335 million hugely diverse people cannot be peacefully governed as one nation.
But, this time, we must avoid the maniacal killing and economic destruction of 1861-65.
We have a lawful Constitutional framework for the sovereignty of individual states.
That is exactly where the discussion needs to start.
It’s VERY close to a “do-over” time right now.......
I think the percentages are much higher and people lie to stay under the radar.
White lies. Can’t call them sins.
There are states. Those states are in the geographic area known as “America.” They are united in only the most tenuous ways.
Things look good for those who want more government assistance.
They said that in the 1980s. Did it happen?
In one sense, the New Deal era ended when WWII started. In another it ended in the 1970s (or maybe the 1990s) when the Democratic Party changed. Or in ended in the 1950s when a Republican president was elected.
Your writer (or your headline writer) is wrong. FDR's era has long been over. So has Ronald Reagan's. Whatever is to come will be different, but it sure as heck won't just be a repudiation of the New Deal or a return to whatever we had before.
FDR's America is gone. So is Ronald Reagan's. But the bureaucracy created by FDR and LBJ is still in place and isn't going away.
Interesting read. Particularly the last bit, where each ear is described as following a failed presidency of Adams, Buchanan, and Hoover.
Who would be the Jefferson, Lincoln or Franklin Roosevelt to follow the failed presidency of Biden?
None of them were encores of a previous administration. The only president to leave the White House and later be reelected was Grover Cleveland who’s second term did not result in any new direction for the country.
“But a political era — that of the New Deal Democrats”
I wouldn’t bet the farm on that one. Americans tend to adjust and adapt to adverse circumstances and come to accept that diminished existence is the unavoidable “new normal.”
