Space, gas and food: Russia unleashes full weight of leverage as it pressures West, escalates war
The Washington Times ^ | July 27th, 2022 | By Ben Wolfgang

Moscow is attempting to unleash its leverage from space and global energy markets in a revamped effort to break Western solidarity and punish the United States and Europe for militarily supporting Ukraine during the more than five months since the Russian invasion.

In the latest salvo, Russian officials declared Tuesday that their country will pull out of the International Space Station in 2024, ending decades of cooperation with the United States and its allies in space and putting the future of the facility in doubt.

The decision was announced a day after Russian energy giant Gazprom said it will slash gas flows to Europe through the critical Nord Stream 1 pipeline to 20% capacity. The announcement immediately increased European energy prices and added fresh urgency to Europe’s effort to reduce consumption and stockpile fuel.

“I know that the decision was not easy, but I think, at the end, everybody understands that this sacrifice is necessary,” Czech Industry Minister Jozef Sikela said after the EU’s emergency meeting in Brussels. “We have to, and we will, share the pain.”

Western governments are putting on the brave face of solidarity. But when there are food and energy riots in their streets they will fold like a cheap lawn chair.

Can astronauts use Uber to get to and from the space station?

Maybe green energy?

Let’s go Brandon!

The Democrats are dragging us into a full world war as part of their great reset.

I never liked the idea of cooperating with the Ruskies on the Space Station. We should have our own Station and colonize the moon and make it our new State. I’m done with this global BS.

If only there was a large, Western-friendly country that was actually a net exporter of energy.

Maybe we could sell them some oil from our Strategic Petroleum Reserves.

Wait, what?

Don't worry.

The UK Daily Mail will be able to crush Russia and Putin with another series of breathless articles rolled out with the approval of Liz Truss, future British prime minister.

Mir was a space station that operated in low Earth orbit from 1986 to 2001, operated by the Soviet Union and later by Russia. Mir was the first modular space station and was assembled in orbit from 1986 to 1996

And yet, there is still not one solitary word about a diplomatic solution, or peace talks, or anything of the sort. Kinda makes you wonder if they want this war as a pretext for their greater plans. Think about it, absolutely no effort reported about resolving this conflict. Isn't that unusual?

“The Democrats are dragging us into a full world war as part of their great reset.”

The good news is there won’t be any world for them to enjoy when the war is over. They are so bleeping stupid.

In the extreme.

“Russia unleashes full weight of leverage”

One effect of playing all your cards, is that then you have no more cards to play.

At the start of this year, Russia provided Europe with over 40% of its gas. Now at mid-year, that is down to 15%.

Everything else is small ball. Oil and gas is where the Russian economy rises and falls, and Putin has screwed that up to an Historic degree.

Perhaps you missed it.

Yes peace talks have been ongoing since very early in the war, first in Belarus, and then moving to Istanbul. Russia insists on conquering, Ukraine refuses to surrender.

They did just recently sign an agreement in Istanbul on grain export (which Russia violated within 24 hours, attacking port facilities in Odessa).

They can use Elon Musk.

Relying on Russia was one of the most pathetic things our government has done.

Oh there have been peace talks hosted by the Turks (maybe two rounds), but the Russians demand to keep all the territory they now occupy, and if the Ukraine does not accept those terms, it will occupy the rest of the Ukraine.

Ukraine refuses to cede its territory to Russia, including the Crimea.

It’s a war of attrition. Which economy collapses first, which county runs out of troops first etc.

Western governments are insane. I don’t really know much about whether Putin is this or that, but I do know our media lies about everything.

The policies the Biden Gang follows are designed to destroy the country and enrich themselves. Same with the EU choads. Putin may be a bastard, but why would he take orders from them?

Fair enough. Unserious efforts by third parties. Where is the full weight and force of the United States government along with the entirety of the EU?

Get back to be when Biden and his State Dept. start pushing/demanding a solution. Tell me, what incentive does Russia have as we keep throwing billions of dollars into Zelenskyy’s bank account, err... war effort?

No, there is no serious effort. It’s Kabuki, IMO.

Cooperating with them on the space station was a very good thing. Of course, you can’t simultaneously cooperate with them on that, and chest bump them around with NATO. You have to pick one or the other, you either have to be cool and interact normally, or you have to be hostile. You can’t really do both.
Besides, in this day and age, Russian astronauts are more like the right stuff. We send frizzy haired unbalanced women up there who start damaging the space station so they can come home early.

“At the start of this year, Russia provided Europe with over 40% of its gas. Now at mid-year, that is down to 15%.”

And prices have tripled, at least. And that’s worldwide. Pull that remaining 15% and they’ll triple again.

The west will not withstand that political pressure. It’s impossible. None of them, especially the US, has a existential interest in Ukraine.

They’ll crumble like Chinese concrete.
