Trump on Leaving Politics: 'That's Not What I Will Do. I Can't Do That'

Former President Donald Trump explained why he continues to fight for what he called America First, Make America Great Again-loving patriots, stopping short of declaring an official presidential campaign for 2024: "Because I love our country."

"Never forget, everything this corrupt establishment is doing to me is all about preserving their power and control over the American people," Trump told the America First Agenda Summit, delivering an America First Policy Institute speech, which aired live on Newsmax. "They want to damage you in any form, but they really want to damage me so I can no longer go back to work for you.

"And I don't think that's going to happen."

Trump repeated his statement that if he were not talking about a 2024 presidential bid, the investigations, witch hunts and House Jan. 6 Select Committee "persecution" would quickly end.

"If I renounce my beliefs, if I agreed to stay silent, if I stayed at home and just took it easy, the persecution of Donald Trump would stop — immediately stop," Trump continued. "But that's not what I will do. I can't do that."

Trump admitted he had a "much simpler" life outside of politics, but he cannot stay away, because we have to "save our country."

"I can't do that because I love our country, and I can't do that because I love the people of our country, so I can't do that," Trump said. "I wouldn't do it and people don't want me to do it.

"And I'm not doing this for me, because I had a very luxurious life. I had a very simple life."

Trump added that he was warned, "the best day of your life is the day before you run for president."

Say what you want but it’s obvious this man really does love the country. He really is the best President this country has ever had. God bless him.

The man Loves his country. Believes in the Constitution. And, Loves the American People. He’s a Fighter. He is not a quitter. President Trump epitomizes the saying “when the going gets tough the tough get going”.ish what he accomplished.
You know it’s sincere because he doesn’t need this shit. He could have just continued a life of luxury most could only dream of. Yet, he willingly gave that all up to fight for this country and the principles that made it great. The principles that provided him the opportunity to accomplish what he accomplished.

No he’s running because a two term President sounds much cooler than a one term President. If he had absolutely no concern for himself and all he wanted to do was advance the conservative agenda he’d be a king maker and help pick and guide a successor rather than pretend he’ll be in peak form to run a country as an octogenerian. But he knows if he runs all the other Republicans will be scared to since all the constant media attention has given him the name recognition.

Thank God for that.

The king maker doesn’t have a successor.

Many of his possible successors spent the last 6 years being anti Trump assholes, instead of working with Trump for the good of our country.

It is what it is.

Trump is simply the best, better than all the rest.

Sorry, but nobody has the stage presence that Trump has. I believe he will continue to have that thru at least 2024.

I like DeSantis a lot, but his speeches don't cut it, yet. But I do hope he's the VP, for when Trump does become an octogenarian.

So he can’t go back to work so they can continue on their heinous agendas.

Nobody would have survived a fraction of what Trump has had to go through and still going through to fight for the American people, including governor Praying Mantis.

we have 300 million people. There has always been someone and probably tons of people far better than whoever was in the Oval office at the time for every President. Its just nobody has the chance to rise with the media cycle the way it is focusing exclusively on stuff like Trump’s twitter wars. A sober look at his record and its clear he’s more liberal than people would like to admit and disinterested in the nitty gritty of the Presidency preferring to delegate which would be fine as hes aging but he’s also indisputably terrible at picking people too. One of the worst I’ve seen. I’d still vote for him in a heartbeat over any Dem but I don’t get the creepy worship of him here. He’s just a man not Jesus.

I’ll admit maybe he’s the best we’ve got under the circumstances but that ain’t the same as absolutely great.

He's the best we've had since Reagan. Trump's most noteworthy impact might be the Supreme Court. Odd because he is socially liberal and he was pro-choice before he ran for President.

“He’s just a man not Jesus.”

I agree with you on this brother, there is only one Jesus, the savior of mankind.

As far as Trump goes, he’s not a religious messiah that isn’t his arena.

He’s a political leader that still has much to achieve over the next 6 years.

He’ll be about the same age that Biden was when he ran for president - and a LOT more vital and capable, and far more truly American!

Regardless of the admitted fact that he-—as every single one of the presidential candidates in every race for decades——loved the ego trip of being President, Donald Trump gave so much more to his country than he got.

He had it already made it as a success as a tiny number of people do, without even running for office at all. His ex model wife, children, many millions or perhaps billions in wealth, resorts, investments, tall buildings with his name on them, film and TV stars and ex champion fighters and ball players wanting their pictures with him, invitations to parties with people from both political sides wanting to have his approval-——he had it made.

Tens of millions have been taught to hate Trump and to hound him to his last day. They consider it a good thing to do.
God bless him.

Then he ran and the Dems including the Clintons went from buddies to vicious, plotting enemies in a flash. And the media was 95% hatefully slanderous day and night every day.

Maybe that's what they told him. But that's not what would happen. If he put The Steal behind him, Trump would always singled as what happens to Republicans who stand athwart the will of the Democrat Party. Who don't go-along to get along. Who don't accept their role as assistant Democrats. The Republican Party would forever be the party of seething-but-servile second-class citizens.

And he will spend with equal abandon, knowing he will not live to see the consequences of America's reckless borrowing. Give me someone like DeSantis who will still be around in 20-30 years' time. No more octos, regardless of health.
