BIDEN ADVISOR GENE SPERLING: “That is not the actual definition of a recession. It is a significant contractionary period over a few months.” Actually, that is a vague enough definition that what we are going through now is almost certainly a recession.
They will not allow themselves to put an actual number on a definition because they want the ambiguity to give them a way out. But that allows people to fill in the blank and say that a cumulative 3-4% contraction over six months is significant.
