Opinion: Surrender on climate change bakes catastrophe in the planet’s cake
The Seattle Times ^ | July 22, 2022 | By Jon Talton

Historians of the future will look back on 2022 as the year America gave up addressing human-caused climate change.

And given the United States’ critical role in international leadership, this will be remembered as the year the world gave up, too.

President Joe Biden’s Build Back Better agenda contained much of the Green New Deal, aiming for a 100% clean energy economy by 2050; making big investments in clean-energy technology, climate research and innovation; becoming the world’s leading exporter of clean-energy technology, and standing up to big polluters and greenhouse-gas emitters.

But even watered down, it couldn’t make it through Congress.

Republicans appear likely to win one or both chambers in the fall, and the GOP is stalwartly opposed even to believing climate change is real and human-caused, much less to addressing it. The most modest progress, such as investing in Amtrak, which moves more people with less emissions than most other modes, may be at risk.

And don’t forget that former President Donald Trump and Senate Republican leader Mitch McConnell packed a right-wing supermajority on the Supreme Court. This past month the court voted 6-3 to limit the Environmental Protection Agency’s ability to curb power-plant emissions.

But reality doesn’t care what Republicans “believe.”

“I think very few here on FR are taken in by the increasingly obvious lies about the climate.”

Even if you are right about most of the FR audience - and I’m not so sure you are - that does not mean we are not amplifying the fake news by paying it the constant attention we do.

I’d venture to say that Tucker Carlson’s, Hannity’s and Steve Bannon’s daily mocking video montages of CNN and MSNBC’s fake news talking points - make up a good half of their total views! The fact that Tucker and all are showing them to mock them and show how absurd they are, doesn’t change the fact that they are doubling their exposure - and giving them free access to conservative audiences who would otherwise never watch CNN.

News stories can have a lot of influence when they go viral - even when they go viral “for the wrong reasons”.

President Trump was able to use this phenomenon to his huge advantage in 2016 when the Leftist media gave him the equivalent of billions of dollars in free press coverage. Blinded by hate and contempt, they thought they were hurting him and embarrassing him, but instead they were giving him a platform - for free.

Now, aren’t we are doing the same for them?

I understand your frustration. I have felt the same myself.

But.

95% of the media, whether print or electronic, is left-wing crap. When we post at FR we need to link to something. Either we limit ourselves to the few conservative media sites, or we link to the left-wing stuff. We do need something to talk about here.

Conversely, demoncraps don't believe in reality.

Don’t expect an answer. Oldcommieboy is a hit and run thread dropper. Drops a turd in the punchbowl and skiddadles every time.

“95% of the media….is left-wing crap….When we post at FR we need to link to something….We do need something to talk about here.”

Put another way; for various reasons beyond our control, we must let the Left determine the scope of our discussion.

Look, I’m not blaming you or anyone else at FR - but perhaps we conservatives have wandered down the wrong path. Again.

The dilemma you describe is too familiar -

It’s not unlike the dilemma whereby we must vote for the lesser of two RINOs if we want our vote to count.

Or how about the dilemma whereby we must submit to enemy “moderators” if we want our candidates to participate in the televised debates?

Or the fact that if we want our children to be respected in their fields, we must send them to an Ivy League university to be brainwashed?

There has to be a point where we stop letting the Left set the terms.

Just saying.

Does Oldeconomybuyer agree with this nonsense or not? Did he even post his own opinion on this thread?

LOL. In 20 years, people will cite this theater of the absurd article like they do this one:

Entire nations could be wiped off the face of the Earth by rising sea levels...

Oldeconomybuyer is one of the best sarcastic posters ridiculing the hoax. No commentary is needed, the opinions of the Climate Cretins are absurd enough.

Do a keyword search on “propaganda”.

Well maybe all these leftist instead of pumping money into left-wing causes and shadow groups and NGOs should’ve been pumping that money into research on building carbon free technologies and cold fusion and anything else they’re fantastic little hearts can imagine. But instead they poured their money into groups and hired a bunch of whiners to go out bugging people to conform to their thought processes

What is the difference between modern day papers and the National Enquirer? One occassionaly gets something right.

All of the Climate change hysteria, then if they succeed, the planet goes into a “little Ice age”. The elites will then tell us they just need to “adjust” their fiddling with the Climate.

That is not true, the most educated people in WA read it. Of course that is not the smartest group. I will take the truckers or construction workers over College educated any day. Engineering degrees in structural studies, or general 100% smart and needed. Climate engineers, give me a break.

The thesis is actually CO2 atmospheric levels drives climate. In the deep dark recesses of millions of years, this current era has some of the lowest levels of CO2 that the planet ever had. I believe that in the ice age, we were nearly at the tipping point of not enough CO2 to grow plants on Earth. We are still rebounding from that low to the current day. Also, scientists have long thought that CO2 levels rising, FOLLOW warming climates, not the opposite. Warmer climates raise CO2 levels, causing more plant life...LIFE, lower CO2 levels portend more plant death... DEATH.

More people die in the cold of winter than they do from the hot summer. FACT

Thanks, good to know that oldeconomybuyer was being sarcastic. I don’t like keyword searches for locating articles, bit I will remember that’s what you do.

It was 100 degrees today yet I have the need to start a fire in my back yard just to burn some more carbon.

Most educated or most propagandized? I think the latter is more true than the former. So, does being “formally educated” amount to a half hill of beans in the grand scheme of things?
