CHICAGO (CBS) -- When it comes to analyzing gun violence trends in Chicago, the numbers tell the story.
First, for mass shootings in which four or more people are hit by gunfire in all of the United States, Chicago has the greatest number of any city – large or small. There have been 24 mass shootings in Chicago this year alone – which have left 12 people dead and 101 injured.
Philadelphia comes in second with 14 mass shootings last year, followed by New York City with 10, Baltimore with eight, and Houston with seven.
For cities with more than 250,000 people, Sacramento has seen the most people killed in mass shootings with a total of 13. Six of those 13 people were killed in one shooting in early April, which was the deadliest in the city's history.
Chicago comes right behind Sacramento with 12 people killed in mass shootings.
Baltimore follows with 11, Buffalo and Houston each have 10 each. All 10 victims in Buffalo were killed in a massacre in a supermarket in May.

You can imagine my surprise.
Gun Free Zones.
Totally do not care. At all.
Trump offered Chicago help with the problem...Chicago turned them down.
It’s an “election” year. The banana republic Democrazies have been busy staging riots and “mass shootings for their Snowflakes and Disney Girls Gone Wild evil princesses.
And why do these ongoing shootings seem not to be newsworthy?
Somebody told me that if the news reported these daily Chicago shootings as much as they did other big shootings, then that’s all the news in Chicago would report. Such news would squeeze out all other news.
And related to that, these shootings happen so often in Chicago, they aren’t really news anymore.
Chicago is not “gun free”. Mrs L and I carry legally every time we head into that wasteland.

In Chicago, how can you tell the difference between a “mass shooting” and a regular old fun Saturday night out with a bunch of smaller shootings? Is there a minimum threshold to qualify as a “mass” shooting?
It appears all the cities listed have several things in common.
And gee, in places like Vermont, Maine, New Hampshire, North and South Dakota, Wyoming, many parts of Tennessee and Texas, and elsewhere like that, there were basically no mass incidents.
Seems like the redefined mass shooting. It used to be 4 killed minus the shooter. It is now 4 injured.
So if gun misfires and scratched 4 people, it is now mass shooting?!
What a feeling to be Numero Uno! The Big Cheese! The Big Kahuna! Top o’ the Heap! Head Honcho!
Per capita – or per 100,000 people – Chicago falls to number 10 for the most mass shooting incidents in cities with 150,000 or more people – with Grand Rapids, Michigan; Baltimore; and Tacoma, Washington taking the top three spots. For cities with 250,000 or more people, Chicago comes in at number five per capita for the most incidents. There you have it! Chicago isn't as dangerous as all of us silly FReepers make it out to be!
I'm surprised to see Grand Rapids and Tacoma on the top of the list when you reduce the city population cut-off to 150,000. Also surprising is the absence of Portland, OR. Maybe the antifa young teen summer camp will improve their standing.
Anyone notice how the left is admitting all of this right before elections? Even the Slimes are performing mea culpas about how wrong thy are.
Me thinks they are trying to say, this has all been asked and answered so no point in bringing it up anymore.
Fookin’ Indiana gun show loophole.
They just need more gun control.
More laws for the criminals to ignore will surely stop them next time.
For the most part, Chicago is mostly peaceful /s
Nothing to see here. Move alone....move alone.
Now let’s see their mugshots. I’d bet a lot of people who think only white males commit mass shootings might be surprised.
And anyone who criticizes mayor Lightfoot is a racist, you know.
