Thomas Lane, one of the three former Minneapolis police officers convicted in February of violating George Floyd’s civil rights, was sentenced to 2.5 years in federal prison on Thursday.
Federal prosecutors had asked Judge Paul A. Magnuson to sentence Lane to between 5.25 years to 6.5 years for his role in the fatal restraint of Floyd on a Minneapolis street in May 2020. Earl Gray, Lane’s attorney, asked for a sentence of 2.25 years.
Former officers Lane, Tou Thao and J. Alexander Kueng faced state and federal charges for their actions – or lack thereof – in May 2020 as their colleague Derek Chauvin pressed his knee into the neck and back of Floyd, who was handcuffed and lying on his stomach, for more than nine minutes.
Lane, a rookie officer on his fourth day on the job, held down Floyd’s legs during the arrest, while Kueng restrained his torso and Thao stood nearby and held back a crowd of upset bystanders. In federal court earlier this year, Lane testified that he asked Chauvin twice to reposition Floyd while restraining him but was denied both times.

I cannot fathom this.
Defund the police!
They should have just left hos sorry ass to die from an overdose in his own car.
A grotesque miscarriage of justice .
His ... not hos ... darn typos
Does anyone have followup information on any of the involved officers whereabouts as to prisons?
We all wondered what prison could insure they would live a full day.
And to think Floyd was on illegal and dangerous drugs and had medical issues and was a felon who once pressed a gun against a pregnant woman’s abdomen to force her to tell where more money was hidden. Were her civil rights impinged upon?
Well, the Woke demanded vengence...
What “civil rights” were violated?
I’m assuming Chauvin is still alive, since he pled guilty to the civil rights violation after the initial trial. I’ve heard nothing to the contrary. The other officers haven’t tried yet.
The "judges" (stooges) and "prosecutors" (persecutors) are part of the mob.
See? More bullsh*t!
The courts are garbage.
It's made up bullsh*t. Don't take it seriously.
So a rookie officer on his fourth day was supposed to speak up and say “Be gentle with this felon lest his civil rights be violated” ?
No rookie talks back to veterans in any such situation.
Thus, how did a rookie have the power to impinge on Floyd’s civil rights? Not worth imprisonment in any way.
And no issue with ‘gf’ violating other citizens rights. I consider it suicide by cop. The deceased was solely responsible for what occured that day. 🐂💩🙅
If that's not a glaring deterrent to avoid work at blue-city police departments, I don't know what is.
During the hearing on Thursday, Judge Magnuson said that Lane had a “minimal role” in the incident, adding that he is a person of “outstanding character.” The judge also noted he received 145 letters in support of Lane. “It’s not unusual to receive letters. But I have never received so many letters,” he said.
They apparently wanted double the time and it was cut in half.....
What about the civil rights of all the people in RAT cities who had their property destroyed or their lives ended in the race riots of 2020? What about the civil rights of all those arrested and thrown in jails for exercising their Constitutional rights on J6?
At least Trump can pardon the federal charges but with a 2.5 year sentence, that’s kind of pointless.
another political prisoner
After Kenosha, the NY bodega and this Minnesota lynching, there’s only one way to deal with these vicious clowns.
