On the morning of May 3, Abby C. burst into tears when she learned a that leaked draft opinion signaled the U.S. Supreme Court would likely overturn Roe vs. Wade.
Before getting out of bed, the 23-year-old booked a consultation to begin the process of getting sterilized. Abby, who did not want to use her last name for privacy reasons, said her previous gynecologist had dismissed her requests, citing her age. But with the leaked opinion throwing the future of reproductive rights into jeopardy, Abby stood firm in her decision.
“I ended up telling her, this is the option I want,” Abby said. “This is the only answer for me.”
It wasn’t until after she woke up from the procedure — a bilateral salpingectomy, in which her fallopian tubes were removed — that she felt relief.
Following the decision in Dobbs vs. Jackson Women’s Health Organization, which overturned the once constitutionally protected right to an abortion, young women and others across the country have increasingly requested sterilization, according to obstetrician-gynecologists who have seen an uptick in Arizona, North Carolina, Texas and Florida.

I had a friend with inherited chronic kidney disease that would be exacerbated by pregnancy as well as her desire to not pass the gene on, who had trouble finding a gyno to sterilize her as well.
Seemed ridiculous to me that they would still be so reluctant in such a situation.
fill it with concrete
And since they don’t want to use protection,
The United States has some of the highest STD rates in the developed world.
that is the best they can do, if they do not have the maternal instinct that every feminine being has and that ensures the existence of the species, their best option is to mutilate themselves for the good of the nation and the human species.
Crazy feminists overreacting over Roe vs Wade decision that brought the issue back to the states.
With abortion becoming more difficult to obtain, they will now get serious about developing functional temporary sterilization techniques for both genders.
Roe v. Wade retarded that development for nearly 50 years.
When did they ban birth control pills? No wonder they are in turmoil!
What is wrong with these people? Contraception, both methods and access, could hardly be easier these days.
“a whole lot of these women are going to be crying”
That, or will they be bitter hags? Either way they will have boxes of wine in the fridge and a couple of cats.
Ok good. Let them figure out they don’t need to kill babies as birth control. Sheesh. Has it really taken five decades to figure that out???
Just imagine what would happen if congress passed a law that allowed ONLY Black woman to get abortions, as many as they wanted with no restrictions, including partial birth abortions? How many of those same woman would be howling in protest?
Great idea for those who would just have their babies butchered in the womb if they became pregnant. Prevent conceiving in the first place.
She, Abby, is still a woman but she is no longer a “birthing person”. She is still a woman but she is no longer a “person who menstruates”. However, the more that I think about it, the more I begin to doubt that she is actually a woman any more, she is merely a sex participant.
Bunch of political ideology driven hysterical fools some of which who will regret their stupidity down the road.
This is giving oneself the Darwin Award—so appropriate for these self-centered, atheistic, travelers down the Santa Monica Pier to catch the Mothership; only to end up in a bunk bed.
Good. Mostly commies. That’s fine with me.
Esp. Since the women not only produce them, but are the prime nurturers. And thus influencers on the children.
Their stupid commie hippie crud not piercing kids’ brains is good for me.
Abby is perfectly normal.
When the Nazis took power in Germany, they advocated the sterilization of all Jews..
