And lack of trust in the Establishment is exactly the aim of those who work to bring about a new Establishment. Everything is being delegitimized from government to sports to gender to language by the left. The more they succeed, the easier for them to get people to go along with an alternative that "will correct the past wrongs and work the the way it should."

The only real solution is to abandon the idea that we need an Establishment at all. As you say, a new Establishment won't fix anything. But the concept of LIMITED government, where individuals are free to run their own lives -- that's the fix. It's what the Founding Fathers gave us, but we've lost it. And, unfortunately, we keep trying to bring it back by setting up a new Establishment that will give it to us. But that's not how it works.

Your comments bring to mind what Machiavelli wrote in the Prince. To paraphrase, when there is a good reason or justification to bring change to the existing establishment, those who are trying to drive the change will only get tepid support by the great numbers of people who would benefit from the change, and the great enmity of those currently in power.
In other words, the establishment will do anything to maintain and expand its power against those who they see as enemies. So how did the US go from a federal government of limited powers, to a feral givernment of unlimited powers? Using an effective Euro-communist strategy - gradualism using the existing system to the point of corruption.
In the past few years of reading about US history, I keep coming back to 1913 .... with the creation of the Federal Reserve and the passing of the 16th Amendment. Then subsequently the 17th Amendment. Woodrow Wilson may not have advanced the ball very far down the court on liberalism, but he planted the seeds. His presidency
including his wife’s and party’s secret running of the office while he was mentally incapacitated by stroke did far more damage to this country and helping put us where we are today - so far from the Constitution of limited federal powers.
Has anyone performed a colorectal exam to see if it's there?
Two things would be needed to change that:
1) reduce the number of people needing Senate confirmation to just the top Cabinet secretaries and under secretaries. Max 100 or so, down from the current several thousand. That's one thing that crippled Trump's presidency, not being able to get people confirmed. Then give the secretaries the power to hire and promote the people under them.
2) Have all managerial positions be fireable by the President.
The way to get rid of the Establishment is by getting rid of the Establishment.
