On August 30, 2002, the 97th Logistics Group inactivated and the 97th Air Mobility Wing Maintenance Directorate formed along with five subordinate divisions. On November 1, 2017, the 97th Maintenance Group was activated to replace the Maintenance Directorate, aligning the 97th Air Mobility Wing’s aircraft maintenance function with standard Air Force organizational structure.

OKaltusafb4

The 97th Mission Support Group provides mission support for C-17, KC-135 and KC-46 aircraft and base wide infrastructure to include communications, civil engineering, law enforcement, force/fire protection, contracting, disaster response, environmental, lodging, transportation, recreation, supply, education, mobility, food service and family & personnel support.

97th Maintenance Group provides maintenance and support to all assigned aircraft and provides the same maintenance support to transient aircraft, engines and associated ground equipment. The Group provides backshop support to all three aircraft while continuously improving environmental awareness and effectively managing maintenance resources, allowing the 97th Air Mobility Wing to perform its aircrew training mission.

Nary a drop fell here. There were a few brief small pop-up showers here and there in the area but that was it.
No rain in store the rest of the week and the temps will be close to 100 every day. The mood is pretty bleak.

At least someone is getting rain this summer. Enjoy it while you’ve got it! :-)

I spent time at Altus from 1977 to 1979 serving with the 443 OMS.

Was a crew chief and loved the 141"s and got to work on a few C-5'S

Good times.....

A Humble Snack
Read: 1 Peter 5:1–6

Clothe yourselves with humility. 1 Peter 5:5

The bag of snack chips was small, but it taught an American missionary a big lesson. Working one evening in the Dominican Republic, she arrived at a church meeting and opened her chips when a woman she hardly knew reached and grabbed a few from the bag. Others helped themselves, too.

How rude, the missionary thought. Then she realized a humbling lesson. She didn’t yet understand the culture where she’d agreed to serve. Rather than emphasizing individualism, as in the United States, she learned that life in the Dominican Republic is lived in community. Sharing one’s food and goods is how people relate to each other. Her way wasn’t better, just different. She confessed, “It was very humbling to discover these things about me.” As she began to recognize her own biases, she also learned that humbly sharing with others helped her serve them better.

Peter taught this lesson to church leaders: treat others with humility. He counseled the elders to resist “lording it over those entrusted to you” (1 Peter 5:3). And those younger? “Submit yourselves to your elders. All of you, clothe yourselves with humility” (v. 5). As he declared: “God opposes the proud but shows favor to the humble.” Therefore, “humble yourselves under God’s mighty hand, that he may lift you up in due time” (v. 6). May He help us humbly live before Him and others today.Patricia Raybon

What cultural biases do you harbor? How could you let God transform those attitudes so you humbly serve all?

Father, exchange my arrogance regarding others with Your humble love.

My dad retired there and I graduated from high school there. It was our first stateside assignment since I was two years old. We were always stationed overseas, Bermuda, Puerto Rico, France, Germany then England, until Altus.

I never really saw this country until I was 16 and it was Altus OK. I went into the USAF from there and lo and behold, went right back there to loadmaster school for C-141s.

It wasn't a bad place, the people were very nice but it was incredibly boring if you didn't have a car.

My mom and dad are buried at the Altus cemetery and their gravesites have a wonderful panoramic view of AAFB.
