EU signs new gas deal as fears grow over Russian supplies cutoff
CNBC ^ | 18-JUL-2022 | Silvia Amaro

European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen and Europe’s energy chief, Kadri Simson, were in Azerbaijan on Monday to finalize the deal. In a statement, the commission said Azerbaijan had committed to delivering at least 20 billion cubic meters to the EU annually by 2027.

Azerbaijan was already on track to increase it deliveries to the region. According to the commission, gas supply from the country will increase from 8.1 billion cubic meters in 2021 to an expected 12 billion cubic meters this year.

Deja Vu all over again… About 20 years ago, I designed and as the project manager put together a small package plant to treat process wastewater from an inorganic chemical unit located within a larger petrochemical complex. The package plant was completely built in the USA, wet tested at the fabricator then disassembled and put into a number of shipping containers. This is where my involvement ended. My recollection is that it was shipped to a Russian port then overland via rail to its destination in the Baku area.

Azerbaijan takes very seriously its independence from Russia.

WWII trivia…. The southern German army divided in half with one piece laying siege to Crimea and the other half attacking Stalingrad. Stalingrad was the strategic gateway to the Caucus oilfields, i.e. Baku region in Azerbaijan.

It’s irrelevant. The energy crisis for Europe hits in earnest this fall, unless there is a negotiated settlement of the war. It there is no resolution by then, governments across Europe will fall and there will be social chaos. The Muslim immigrants, especially, will become disruptive if they don’t get the full amount of heat, light, and food European welfare states have accustommed them to. If Biden would get his foot off the throat of the energy energy, we could probably supply lots of LNG cheaper than trying to get gas from Central Asia. Certainly, even if not cheaper, the LNG would be available a lot sooner than 2027.

True enough, but it can’t cover the shortfall in time for the fall and winter.

Kazan,

You RuZZian trolls really don’t know what the definition of propaganda is.

Propaganda is false or biased info.

I’ve posted an article.

Just because the story isn’t what you want to “hear”, doesn’t mean its propaganda. If its propaganda, identify the false info and contact the author of the article.

Dump Dirty RuZZian.

Since Nordstream I was shutdown on July 11, do you think EU nat gas in storage has increased or decreased? Storage build or withdrawal?

I certainly don’t think there’s a storage build. Do you have data on that? I’d be interested. What I do know is that Germans are telling me that their economies are shutting down, and people are panicking. Admittedly that’s anecdotal, but family members, German friends, and even a German pilot at the gym have all been saying the same thing.

“I certainly don’t think there’s a storage build.”

Of course I have the data! I post EU nat gas storage data every Wed (or so).

Here is the latest from last week. I’ll post again this Wednesday or Thursday.

https://freerepublic.com/focus/f-chat/4078168/posts

EU nat gas storage build has increased since July 11th, even with Nordstream I shutdown.

Now within the EU, only 1 country has a net withdrawal. That country? Germany. Nearly all other EU countries have continued to build. EU overall is a net build. So far.

July 13 inventories were at 2396 BCF. Currently at 2427 (https://www.celsiusenergy.net/p/european-natural-gas-inventories.html#box18)

EU experiencing a heat wave right now. So this is probably “peak summer” right now.

Looking ahead, I would guess Western Europe will be fine this winter. Germany could be the exception. Will they complete their floating LNG terminal soon? I posted a picture of it under construction a while back. From memory I think they targeted 1-2 terminals to be completed later this year and 1-2 early next year? Been a while since I looked at that.

Yes, they are leasing 4 floating LNG terminals. From memory I think there were like 5 available around the world. Germany grabbed 4 of them.

BTW Russia has one gas pipeline from Siberia going to Northern China. There are “forever” plans to build another pipeline. I know of no construction being done on it.

It seems to me that most Russ to China gas exports are done via LNG ships. Russia has two major LNG export terminals. One is on Sakhalin Island. China has 20 LNG intake terminals. One is in Guangdong where the manufacturing is done. This is where China really needs Russian natural gas to be.

Who pays to compress and chill the LNG? The Russians do and they don’t mind. They have natural gas coming out their ears. Natural gas to use to compress/chill the ship born LNG. At the Chinese end no energy needs to be expended. They just open up the valves to let the LNG flow out.

“Europe needs Russian a lot more than Russia needs Europe’s business.”

LOL! we shall see!

“But, you’re too stupid to realize that the west, like Ukraine in the actual war, getting its ass kicked in the sanction.”

And yet the war rages on and Russia STILL hasnt seized the entire coast, nor has there been mass surrender, no encirclements....

“Millions are sick of your kind of Russophobia negatively impacting their quality of life.”

LOL! like you really care

That’s getting way too far into speculation for me.

We should be more concerned about a President who showers with his daughter.
