When I was a kid, we made tiny firearms out of fired Ramset cartridges we pillaged from building sites and filled them with matchheads and a BB and one matchhead in front, all of it wrapped in foil. When we struck them against an object, there was a very short wait and it fired the BB fast enough to break a window.

Many other fun experiments when we were kids I won't go into - but it should not come as a surprise that all of us ended up in Vietnam later...
