Los Angeles County reached a “high” level of COVID-19 infections on Thursday, according to public health officials, meaning a mask mandate could be imposed in two weeks as the highly transmissible Omicron subvariants BA.4 and BA.5 make waves across the country.
The health department bases its decision on the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s three-tier criteria of community high, medium or low levels of COVID-19 rates.
L.A. County Public Health Director Barbara Ferrer expressed concern to reporters Thursday about the new infections, saying “we have a ton of transmission right now,” and stressed her position on masking up.

As I said in another thread, I spent 2 evenings overheating in bed, but temperature + oxygen were normal. You do get tired. Doesn’t last too long. I’ve had worse plagues when I lived in The Bay Area.
If you had a scale with “Cold” at one end & “Flu” at the other, this lands in the middle.
This may be my third go-around with the Coof. I had identical symptoms during late September, 2019. At the time, I didn’t know what it was. Now, I do.
I had an idiot friend ask me last night my thoughts on her masking up again. I told her point blank they don’t work. On top of that, she recently recovered from CoVid about 3 weeks ago. She was sick for less than a week. For the first few days she thought she had allergies. It wasn’t until the cough and fatigue set in that she thought about testing herself, and that’s when she found out she was positive. She’s doubly vaxxed and at least one booster, maybe two. She’s 78, but couldn’t take the Paxlovid because it interacts with the statins that she must take. How can anyone talk sense into these people? Masks don’t work. If they did, we would’ve been finished with this already. Same for the vaccine.
I don't know if that was it, but it was less than a cold.
My wife and adult kid had it late December 2019. I likely caught it, but fought it off. They were exposed to someone (late 20s, early 30s) who had been flying back and forth between Silicon Valley (ground zero for most of the cr@p that comes from the Far East) annd Phoenix. Flew into Austin to meet up with our kid and spent 3 days sleeping on their couch.
I did better than that. I walked it into Disney World. Back in September, 2019, I dismissed it as a 2-day bug.
Some places are gearing up for another mandate.
I am 80% certain that at least one of my local counties will mandate again in the next month or so.
I have been seeing an uptake of mask wearing locally.
