Here's How Democrats' Big Domestic Agenda Bill Has Shrunk

WASHINGTON — Call it the incredible shrinking domestic policy initiative.

As Democrats toil to salvage pieces of President Joe Biden’s sweeping social policy, climate change and tax package this summer, their negotiations have highlighted how substantially they have had to curb their ambitions in bowing to political reality and economic shifts.

What was once a transformational cradle-to-grave social safety net plan that some liberals said they envisioned would spend as much as $6 trillion — with free preschool, affordable child care, national paid leave and major new programs to curb climate change — is emerging as a far smaller proposal with none of those components.

The drastic scaling back has been driven by the party’s razor-thin majorities and the refusal of Manchin to embrace some of his colleagues’ most costly plans. But it also reflects the demise of a brief but powerful political consensus that emerged at the start of the coronavirus pandemic in favor of unfettered domestic federal spending and a muscular role for the government in confronting the nation’s problems. With inflation and other economic concerns on the rise before midterm elections, Democrats are poised to set aside their desire to enact huge new federal initiatives this year for a narrow package.

Here’s a look at how and where the Democrats’ domestic legislation has shrunk.

They say this like it’s some momentous thing.

But ya see, that’s how legislation works. You start big and amend and amend until you have the votes to get something passed through the body.

But we don’t legislate like in the old days anymore. These battles would have already happened in committee, BEFORE a bill reached the floor.

But now we have bills cobbled together in back rooms instead of in open committee, so they can be brought to the floor quickly and then shoved down the throat of the body.

But time is running out. Their power is waning.

“...a muscular role for the government in confronting the nation’s problems.”

Everything government touches turns to foul, stinky excrement. I’m hard pressed to think of any problem they solved. All they do is perpetuate the problems, pretend to do something to solve them, exacerbate the problems they created, and perpetuate them...so they can again pretend to solve them by spending more of our money.

There is nothing created by man more inefficient or destructive of freedom and liberty than government.

They have stripped down the bill to the bare essentials: the part where they and their cronies are paid off.

I monitor leftwing websites.

“The natives are getting restless.”

I wouldn’t be surprised if the progressive factions start causing serious problems for the democrats. As economic pain increases, the chaos in their party should grow in magnitude.

The glue that holds them together is hatred of Trump, the Republican Party, & MAGA voters.

Here is your average left-wing voters historically perspective:

1) First we destroyed the Confederacy during the Southern Rebellion.
2) Then we destroyed the Nazis during WW2
3) Now we need to destroy MAGA.

I know it sounds stupid, but this “how they think.”

They don't think they should ever lose, and compromise is evil.

They think anything that inconveniences a Democrat is a threat to democracy. Not an exaggeration.

That’s exactly right.
