LOS ANGELES (AP) — Nick Barragan is used to wearing a mask because his job in the Hollywood film industry has long required it. So he won't be fazed if the county that's home to Tinseltown soon becomes the first major population center this summer to reinstate rules requiring face coverings indoors because of another spike in coronavirus cases.
“I feel fine about it because I’ve worn one pretty much constantly for the last few years. It’s become a habit,” said Barragan, masked up while out running errands Wednesday.
Los Angeles is the most populous county, home to 10 million residents. It faces a return to a broad indoor mask mandate on July 29 if current trends in hospital admissions continue, county health Director Barbara Ferrer said this week

White House adviser Dr. Anthony Fauci and Health & Human Services Secretary Xavier Becerra are warning of the latest COVID-19 variant, but are declining to specify key facts about the newest iteration of the virus, Sen. Rand Paul, R-Ky., told Fox News on Tuesday.
Paul, an ophthalmologist, told “Jesse Watters Primetime” that amid warnings and renewed pressure on Americans to submit to another round of injections, the administration is noticeably mum on the severity of the new variant, or other key characteristics like transmissibility and potential for hospitalization.
In recent remarks, Fauci called for the virus to still be “taken seriously” and warned Americans who want to put the microbe “behind us” must realize it is not gone yet.
In response, Paul said Fauci and others also wrongly push for Americans to be injected for the fourth or fifth time with the same serum formulation used to combat the original Alpha strain of coronavirus.
“How come the flu vaccine changes every year and they’re not willing to change this vaccine?” he said. “Now, you might have me with an argument. I’ll listen to you if you tell me, ‘We’ve got a new vaccine that actually has something to do with the current virus,’” he said.
“Omicron itself was about 90% less likely to put you in the hospital than the first variant,” he added. “So if no one’s telling you any information, how can you make any judgment other than the emotionalism and the sensationalism of the government?”
Paul said Americans should “discount” what Fauci, Becerra and others are warning about because they refuse to deal in empirical terms in deference to “sensationalism.”

Not that I’ve noticed. For reasons that I don’t understand, at all, people in Cali immediately adopted the mask talisman, and never really let up on it.
It wasn’t the only reason, but it was a factor that sent us packing to Texas.

Right? Cruises are blecchh for the most part.
A friend of mine got a huge discount from the company she works for for an Alaskan cruise. She and her fiancé went last month. They loved the scenery but said they didn’t see what all the hype was about cruises.
I’ve been on two in my life. One when I was eleven, from New York to Naples, Italy. We were moving (Navy brat) there and back then, they put you on your choice of a plane or a luxury liner.
The other one was in my 20s. A bunch of us went on a Caribbean cruise.
I enjoyed both, but I’ve never been all flipped out about it like some people get. I’d rather go to a beach resort for a few days.

Our idea of a nice vacation is traveling to a great location (by car...or, plane...pre-china flu craziness) and staying at a nice hotel, going to different, nice restaurants, most evenings, seeing the sights, walking along the beach, or shops....then....returning to our hotel room, for the eve.
This floating with the same peeps, seeing the same foods/staff, day after day just isn’t appealing....to me, anyway.

I wonder if this idiot would live in a moldy old house? Because wearing a cloth mask in hot humid weather is probably equivalent to that from the standpoint of his lung health.
