To be fair to the wife of the fool in the oval office, she didn’t compare Hispanics to breakfast tacos. Words have meaning. Sentences have syntax. She said Hispanics are “unique.” the “AS” gives an example of something that is unique. It’s called a simile.
It’s unfortunate that the public hears “Hispanic” and “tacos” in the same sentence and thinks that means “Hispanics are tacos.”
However, since Republicans are roasted on the spit for similar statements, she deserves criticism and should apologize.
Imagine an alternate reality, in which Melania Trump gave a speech to a black organization in Jackson, Mississippi and said, “the diversity of this community ... as unique as the fried chicken (or chitlins, or ham hocks, or watermelon) here in Jackson, is your strength.”
Now imagine how the media would have reacted.
