I was recently near a brand-new Starbucks - that was drive-thru only. There was also a walk-up window - but no indoor area or outdoor seating.
I suspect this will be Starbucks new business model.
Ends the homeless hanging out all day in Starbucks - and the “racist” bathroom issue as well:
“The men were waiting for someone at the Philadelphia Starbucks store and had not purchased anything before the arrest. Police officials said they were not allowed to use the restroom because they did not buy anything, and a store manager called Philadelphia police after the men refused to leave.”
When I lived in Seattle There was a McDonalds downtown only open 10am to 4pm. Too many homeless and addicts making it too much of a pain in the azz to stay open outside of those hours.
There’s a new Dunkin Donuts like that in East Chicago, Indiana. Probably for the same reasons.
Many stores have a “customers only” policy for their restrooms, and many of these restrooms now require a code that you must get from an employee.
It's business model lots of other fast food places are following. Wendy's, McDonalds, etc. They redesigned their interiors so it's harder for groups (especially groups of "Youths") to hang out.
Wouldn’t be in blue rat areas would it?
If you must have Starbucks coffee, you can get sit down service in stores like Target, Barnes and Noble, grocery stores, mall food courts, etc. Those locations can deal with problem people rather than Starbucks Corporation. All this pretty much ruins Starbucks’s “third place” business model, but they have to adapt to the society around them.

Ballistic glass will be next.
