Elon Musk responded to Donald Trump's recent criticism by saying it was time for the former president to "hang up his hat & sail into the sunset."
Musk commented via Twitter after sharing a story about Trump on Saturday night calling the Tesla and SpaceX CEO a "bullsh*t artist."
"I don't hate the man, but it's time for Trump to hang up his hat & sail into the sunset," Musk tweeted Monday night. "Dems should also call off the attack – don't make it so that Trump’s only way to survive is to regain the Presidency."
Musk's tweet came after Trump's appearance at a rally in Alaska, where the former president suggested the billionaire's move to buy Twitter was a ruse. Trump also called Musk a liar for saying he had never voted for a Republican.
After Musk’s "sunset" tweet, talk show host Joe Pags Pagliarulo asked the billionaire whether he had an issue with Trump's presidency, pointing out policies regarding energy independence, lower regulations, construction of the Keystone XL Pipeline, and a the southern border.
"Yeah, but too much drama. Do we really want a bull in a china shop situation every single day!?" Musk tweeted. "Also, I think the legal maximum age for start of Presidential term should be 69."
Another Twitter follower asked Musk why he wouldn't support a 2024 GOP national ticket with Trump at the top and Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis as the vice president nominee. DeSantis then could run in ’28 and ’32.
"Trump would be 82 at end of term, which is too old to be chief executive of anything, let alone the United States of America," Musk tweeted in response.
"If DeSantis runs against Biden in 2024, then DeSantis will easily win – he doesn’t even need to campaign."

I like DeSantis, but when he gets into national elections, the dems are going to start their endless lawfare campaign against him. They are doing that to Trump, but the difference is that Trump has an army of personal lawyers and the personal wealth to finance them. Trump's lawyers will also bite back, and it will not be fun for whichever tool the dems recruit.
I don't think DeSantis has the personal wealth to maintain a team of lawyers to watch out for him. He could end up like Sarah Palin, tied up in legal shenanigans that drained her financially.
Unless republicans come up with an effective method against dem lawfare against their most effective leaders, candidates with regular wealth will be tied up in all kinds of legal process.
Trump and Musk are doing it to themselves. Better tell them to cool it.
Real life Star Wars.
Why, oh why, did PDJT have to poke the bear? Musk could’ve be an incredible asset in Trump’s next term. He continues to burn bridges.
So what if Musk said he supports DeSantis? If RD doesn’t run (and he won’t if Trump does) Musk could help. Why piss him off?
Many do. But many - including many who voted for him - don't.
Elections are about numbers, not about passion, and a vote doesn't count any more than anyone else's simply because you are more enthusiastic about your candidate. Trump cannot win if the only votes he gets are those of dedicated "Trumpers".
It is Trump's fault that this line of discussion got started. There was no good reason for Trump to slam Musk. Trump is leading in many of the polls (real ones), and he can take the high road and focus on the myriad of issues that ALL Americans are facing.
Trump was pissed he wasn’t getting his account back at Twitter. Musk’s pullout ended that.
Trump needs to learn to lead our movement without thinking he must be president to do it. He’s not that many years away from 80.
Ahhhh....so now we see why Musk is suddenly a “Republican.” LOL.
Musk has now insured Twitter will censor everyone through the Mid Term Elections - slow walking the “buyout” or completely out of the deal.
In some circles being called a bullshit artist is considered a compliment.
Possibly Mr. Trumps was of that mind.
Donald Trump was a great President. But there really are times when he needs to zip his mouth. This is one of them.
Put the sarc tag after that.
“Donald Trump is the same man he was in 2016 and America loves his brash style even more now. “
Trump will be 78 in 2024. Biden has demonstrated to the American people a danger of putting someone in their late 70’s into the job of POTUS. Trump’s combative style was refreshing and new in 2016. Given the direction the country is moving in, by 2024 the American people will be looking for a young, energetic problem solver who has demonstrated he or she can build an effective team to tackle the myriad of grave problems the nation will be facing at home and internationally.
Serious voters will be concerned about Trumps age, and the possibility of electing another advanced age president with dementia, and will remember Trump failed miserably in selecting capable and committed people for many key jobs. They will also want a president who spends time and energy actually working on very complex problems not someone whose extreme ego is so big he goes into personal attack mode at the slightest perceived offense. Trump always has to be the center of attention, taking credit for anything good, and blaming others for anything negative. Real leaders back their people when the going gets rough, they don’t constantly criticize them, or berate them, in public.
The key question is can a 78 year old egomaniac adapt his style to govern effectively in 2024? If Trump is reelected in 2024, and spends four years at war with his own people in the executive branch, Congress, and the media, he will fail.
It’s not even whether it came first or not. Trump makes it very public.
If Trump just had that Personal opinion, or only mentioned it to his close confidants (even subordinates), that would be one thing. But it becomes massive public statements.
Same here. Trump has done his job. Time for the next generation.
Who is stepping up? I don’t see many stepping up right now.
No one will right now. Too early. Let’s wait for the dust from the mid-terms to settle down.
