Every pregnancy may potentially kill the mother, the infant, or both. Miscarriages and births that killed both mom and baby were a lot more common in the good old days.
They like to hammer away on that idea in this era: “IF YOU DON’T WANT TO DIE A HORRIBLE DEATH, OR SUFFER UNIMAGINABLY - or have stretch marks - HAVE AN ABORTION!”
