War fatigue, Europe inflation hit Ukraine aid response

Ruslana Hrytskiv has helped "dozens, maybe hundreds" of refugees since Russia invaded Ukraine, but her task is getting tougher as war fatigue sets in and Europe battles soaring prices and record inflation.

When she tried to find shoes for Ukrainian children on Facebook this week, she found herself entangled instead in a debate on the health aspects of wearing second-hand footwear.

Her argument that the mother, who gave birth to a third child en route to Prague, simply could not afford something new for her twins failed to impress.

"The response is slower than it used to be," said Hrytskiv, a Ukrainian who has lived in the Czech Republic for over two decades.

"At the beginning, people were unexpectedly forthcoming," she noted.

Hrytskiv's experience is echoed by aid organisations across eastern Europe, which has welcomed hundreds of thousands of Ukrainian refugees, mostly women with children.

Like the rest of the continent, the region is grappling with runaway prices that make people think twice about their spending.

The record-high inflation, which reached 15.6 percent in Poland in June for instance, is fuelled by a spike in energy prices due largely to the Russian invasion that began on February 24.

"We can see somewhat less interest now in helping than at the beginning of the war," said Eszter Bakondi-Kiss, a volunteer with the Hungarian Habitat for Humanity group coordinating refugee accommodation.

"We received far more offers or applications to be a part of these programmes then," she told AFP.

Almost five months into the conflict, those helping Ukrainian refugees detect a slowing aid response as the region battles soaring living costs.

Excellent Twitter site of Will Schryver who on Jan 13th wrote a series of very prescient tweets outlining the upcoming war. The first link is to his Twitter site. The second link to a roll out of his January war posts that have aged very well. The next four links are all from his brand new blog. The last link is to a chart of European Land Forces Comparison - 2022. This one chart offers the evidence that this war has been intended, planned.

It’s so sad for the children. I don’t want to be snarky, but like many times before, the idea of a war sounded noble in the beginning.

But the reality of living through it isn’t a video game. Europe is finding themselves in a world austerity that their parents and grandparents told them about

Such is the state of civilization these days. Back in my day...

As correspondent for NewsMax, Greta VanSustrand accompanied a Samaritan’s Purse plane carrying relief supplies to Ukraine. The plane landed in Poland. From Poland, the supplies were distributed into Ukraine. This was but one of many such flights, weekly I think. Shepard’s Purse has established extensive logistics capabilities within Ukraine to distribute the supplies. Prep for winter deliveries is now underway.

Greta interviewed Ukranian refugees in Poland as well as Poles assisting with their care. It seems Poland is in fact heavily involved in helping the refugees out.

Greta’s take belies this article from I think France

For the record, we recently switched to Newsmax to watch Greta’s excellent 6:00 news presentation. I recommend it

“”At the beginning, people were unexpectedly forthcoming,” she noted.”

Supporting ‘refugees’ is an EXCELLENT way to Virtue Signal and feels really go at the same time.

...and then you realize that they’re not going away.

‼️🇩🇪🇺🇦Germany does not intend to finance Ukraine and blocks $ 9 billion in European aid

Germany is trying to circumvent anti-Russian sanctions on gas supplies, which further increases tensions between Berlin and Kiev, the newspaper Corriere della Sera reports.

“This may be one of the reasons that prompted yesterday Zelensky to sharply and rather harshly dismiss the Ukrainian ambassador to Germany, Melnyk ,” notes the largest Italian publication.

Kiev urgently needs assistance in the amount of 5 billion dollars a month, and economic experts do not exclude a serious chance that in September Ukraine will default on repayment of external debt in the amount of 900 million euros , the publication states.

Interesting article showing up in the Berlin newspaper Tagesspiegel

“‘Date-rape drug’ scandal rocks German chancellor’s party”

Sounds like Shultz is getting a bit to Germany-first for the Neocons and they’re now engineering a coup there.

It’s going to be interesting to see what is left of NATO when this is over. Germany’s current government doesn’t stand a chance of surviving this (now even fighting with both Lithuania and Canada.) Italy’s government situation is under more pressure. Macron has been weakened and embarrassed and lost all influence. BoJo has clowned off. And we haven’t even hit the no heat, no food, no fuel part of the story yet.

NATO grossly overestimated the U.S. ability to protect it and defeat Russia. Unfortunately, U.S. leaders have also been drunk on their own omnipotence and reality is about to sober them up and all of us are going to pay a long term price for their delusions of grandeur.

Reality always bites leftists when the balloon goes up. Our woke military—with boys dressed as girls, ability to call “Timeout!” when Sarge chews them out, lowered physical standards, political officer corps, and CRT taught in West Point—is going to fail spectacularly in any conflict.

China knows it, Russia knows it, we know it. But they don’t.

Yet.

The war will be over soon. Russia’s most winning general is about to take the field in September-October—General Winter.
