McConnell’s Disastrous Culture War Surrender Is Wrong On The Year, The Issues, And The Nature Of The Fight
The Federalist ^ | July 8,2022 | BY: CHRISTOPHER BEDFORD

The hard lesson that suburban parents learned in 2021 is despite the Democrats and the media blame game — and despite the GOP’s hand-wringing — Trump was not the cause of the omnipresent American Culture War. Yes, he answered nearly every call to battle, but rarely did he instigate any major cultural conflicts.

Perhaps to moderates and McConnell’s great surprise, in schools, professional sports, playgrounds, city halls, amusement parks, and entertainment companies across the country, the culture war has continued in his absence. In many places, it’s even heated up.

That’s why suburban parents from all types of political, religious, and ethnic backgrounds are rebelling against woke policies. They understand who the aggressors are; they get it, yet the professionals in charge of the Republican Party don’t.

That’s a problem that reflects poorly on both McConnell’s team’s political acumen and on their political courage. Theirs is a strategy that will lead to anemic electoral gains at best, in what should (through no fault of their own) be a banner year for Republicans.

Theirs is a strategy that mistakes the nature of the 2022 election, misses some of the main issues motivating suburban voters, and most damningly, misunderstands the very nature of the fight the American people are engaged in: We can fight, or we surrender; there is no retreat.

Mitch McConnell is a useless, double-crossing, d-bag weasel.

What hand-wringing; what surrender? The GOP are complicit.

I admit to being tired of editorials that refuse to acknowledge that and still pretend the GOP is an emasculated opposition party instead.

Bush League Republicans exist to be Assistant Democrats.

We must STOP electing them.

Yep. McConnell knows what he is doing. He isn’t misreading the will of the people.

In many respects McConnell is the prototypical Republican so the party loves him.

Remember, this asshat was maj leader for DJT’s first two years. The house was also controlled by DJT’s party. Who thinks that 2025 will be any different than 2017 with McCarthy as leader of the house and McConnel as leader of the senate? the old saying, ‘fool me once......’ comes to mind here.

In Kentucky, it is an open secret that Turtlehead is a gay boy. That should explain his behavior

“Acid test to all candidates for Senate - will you support China Mitch as Majority Leader?”

I agree. Some people don’t like litmus tests but I think that they’re totally appropriate. It’s a tool that voters use to put the candidates on record. Anything that the voters can do to move the party to the right is a good thing.

Mitch McConnell is the architect of the SCOTUS majority that gave us Roe. The guy walked a political tightrope to deliver it. He’ll of course be hated by most Republican and Democrat voters, but the man delivered.

That's because a lot of voters go with the purist crowd and don't think for themselves. The Dems know better - they hate McConnell almost as much as they hate Trump, precisely because he's so good at politics.

No other GOP majority leader in the last 50+ years could have held together the slim majorities necessary to stop Garland, and then confirm Trump's nominees. Politically, he shouldn't have won those battles. The reason he won them was precisely because he played the kind of politics that a lot of Republicans despise. He didn't fight battles "on principle" he knew he couldn't win simply to appeal to his base. He cut members of his caucus slack to abandon him on votes he couldn't win anyway, and he stuck by the incumbent members of his caucus even when they were being challenged by a better candidate.

He did all of that so that for truly critical votes, he could call in all his markers and ram through the vote. That's the only reason we have the Supreme Court we have today, and the Democrats are furious.

He may be an evil genius, but he's our evil genius.

You are being kind to McConnell.

He is pure slime. Slippery and very old and smelly.

No other? Most likely the obes McConnell shut out of the position could, and sooner too. He was hoping against the Dobbs decision.
