The smartphone app that allows people to self-report COVID-19 infections and then alerts other app users who may have been exposed will stop operating on July 27.
The state health department says COVID Alert PA, in use since early in the pandemic, is no longer an essential tool, even though the threat isn’t over.
“As we move forward through this phase of the response, the COVID Alert PA app is no longer critical regardless of the current volume of COVID-19 cases. The department will continue to stay alert and monitor COVID-19 cases,” health department spokeswoman Maggi Barton said.
As of Wednesday, Pennsylvania had seven-day averages of 1,979 new cases and nine deaths per day, with 45,821 COVID-19 deaths since the start of the pandemic. Slightly less than 1,100 people were hospitalized with COVID-19 as of Wednesday, including 99 in intensive care and 45 on breathing ventilators.
The app was downloaded by about 1.2 million people.
Barton said 4,853 people who tested positive for COVID-19 uploaded their result to the app, resulting in 2,845 people being alerted of exposure. The positive results were handled anonymously, with the infected person’s identity unknown to people exposed to them.
The app used Bluetooth keys to identify app users who were within six feet of an infected person for 15 minutes or more.
Barton says the state will continue to do contact tracing to find and notify people exposed to infected people, although she didn’t say how far-reaching the effort is. The latest recommendations from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control say people who get COVID-19 should stay home and away from other people for at least five days.
The app had many other features, including state and county-level data on COVID-19 infections and deaths, and information about COVID-19 vaccination locations.
Barton says people can continue to get that information from these sources:
— Find a vaccine provider near you: https://www.vaccines.gov/
— Track the level of COVID-19 activity in your community via the CDC’s county-level map: https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/your-health/covid-by-county.html
— Get the latest weekly update on COVID-19 data in Pennsylvania online at: https://www.health.pa.gov/topics/disease/coronavirus/Pages/Cases.aspx
— Check if you should get a COVID test on the “When to Get Tested” page: https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/testing/diagnostic-testing.html
— Find COVID-19 testing sites in Pennsylvania here: https://www.health.pa.gov/topics/disease/coronavirus/Pages/Symptoms-Testing.aspx
— Review treatment options if you test positive: https://www.health.pa.gov/topics/disease/coronavirus/Pages/Prevention-Treatment.aspx
The other two "dots":
One: As of July 4 the CDC will no longer be publishing various metric on a daily basis...going to weekly reports.
Two: ZOOM has notified some accounts that ZOOM meetings will now be limited to 40 minutes, effective immediately. During the pandemic there were no time limits.
So it looks like the Chinese Disinformation Center aka CDC and the puppetmasters in Bejing are signalling: It's over.

Pennsylvania Ping!

FReepmail me to be added to the list.
It looks like Canada has not yet gotten the word.
;-)
It’s not shut down. It’s just been tweeked to alert the presence and proximity to conservatives. That was the original intent anyway.
The front page of the Coeur d’Alene Press newspaper FINALLY took their “COVID Watch” off the front page a couple months ago.
Pennlive hedged their bets, though. The second paragraph says “...even though the threat isn’t over.”
Another step towards a new normal.
I don’t think so… there is a wave of vaxxed n boosted in my are. That’s what happens with pseudo immunity. They are really sick, but not hospitalized.
Imagine if this wave was public… we would be in masks again. We will be, just have to wait until midterms are over.
They have to keep this one a secret.
Ironically, there may be more cases (less severe and with more vaccinated people).
Of course, the keepers of Covid semi fake news don’t want those realities becoming a common reality.
My wife’s family back in the midwest recently had an outbreak of the latest CC aka crud hitting 4 generations in about a week. Most thought that they were just getting allergies and a few aches. No treatment besides rest, allergy meds and baby aspirin/or a mild NSAID and lots of fluids.
The ages ran from 78 to pre teen. One 50 year old guy had to go to bed for a day. No fevers just mild aches and pain. Their sense of smell and taste were basically gone. -3 All were vaccinated 2-3 times.
A similar pattern hit a large California family, many of which we are friends. One of their many Grandkids was graduated from a nursing school. So they held a party at the grandparents to celebrate. Basically everyone had been vaccinated 2-3 times. The grandparents were the only ones who didn’t get the crud. All of the other family members had the same mild symptoms as our mid west family.
Antihistamines/NSAIDS and steroid nasal spray were the treatments, recommended by their new RN.
PA needs those mail in ballots for November.

Translation: The evil Trump has been destroyed by destroying the country with an overreaction to Covid. So, we’re done with the app and the tracking.
I’ve had the VA app on my phone for almost 2 years. NEVER. NEVER had one notification. After I tested positive at home I found out you can only enter a test from a “professional” test site.
1 million plus downloads and only 7000 notifications.
Post 10. Spot on.
The vax-pushers appear to have ramped things up again lately. The few we have left on FR have become more shrill and illogical over the last few days. They’re screeching insults and lies in quite the unhinged (but sort of funny) fashion.
I suspect the cash spigot has slowed down to a crawl for them. Awwww…too bad. 😁
People were probably using it to track illegal ballot harvesters
Not so fast. And right in the nick of time. Just helping to keep the gaslights up and running!

“BA.5 is the worst version of the virus that we’ve seen.”
“It takes immune escape, already extensive, to the next level, and, as a function of that, enhanced transmissibility well beyond earlier versions of omicron”

Opinion | The worst virus variant just arrived. The pandemic is not over.
The arrival of subvariant BA.5 should be a reminder that the finish line in this race is nowhere to be seen.
