The war started in 2014 when a democratically elected government in Kiev was overthrown in a violent coup d’état.

As much as anything the war is a money laundering campaign for the rat November election effort.

This kind of article is on one hand, Monday morning quarterbacking. On the other hand, why do we have so-called experts studying (among other countries) Russian history and running classes in Russian studies at Georgetown and dozens of other schools?

It’s not as if if wasn’t perfectly well known that Russia was made very nervous, for whatever reasons, by the potential NATO-fication of Ukraine. After the fall of the USSR and however many countries, 6-8-10, were plucked from its influence, it just wasn’t enough. They didn’t care about losing Bulgaria and Romania nor even that much, Hungary. They never made a secret about Ukraine being a bridge too far.

>The only US ox that would have been gored by this settlement would have been that of our odious neocon triumphalists, who want America to destroy Russia and become the world's unquestioned hegemon.

Flipping Ukraine has been in the MIC/Deep State sights since at least 1997 and the subsequent Orange Revolution. They were certainly far enough along in their plans such that in 2008 for Bush to publicly declare that Ukraine would definitely become a member of NATO.

there is ZERO strategic American interest in Ukraine, but geography and history make Ukraine Russia's paramount strategic interest. So why then would the US deep state pursue Ukraine for so long and so hard?

There is only one reason - their target is to encircling, and thus dismantling and controlling Russia. As neocon Godfather Zbigniew Brzezinski said in the 1990s - that ‘without Ukraine, Russia ceases to be a Eurasian empire’

They won the war before it started. What we are watching is a Samurai committing seppuku as ordered by his shogun. The entire country.

That Russia would win was always a forgone conclusion. The issue was the price that Russia’s military would pay.

To me, the goal in opposing Russia should be, and should always have been, degrading their military and dragging them into an Afghanistan type debacle.

Russians very probably would have settled the Ukraine problem by a declaration of permanent Ukrainian neutrality

True but we wouldn't let that happen.

Before the war started, as late as December of 2021, the Russians very probably would have settled the Ukraine problem by a declaration of permanent Ukrainian neutrality (i.e., no NATO membership, ever) [...]

What right has Russia to "settle" anything pertaining to sovereign decisions of Ukraine?!

What right has Russia to "declare" permanent Ukrainian neutrality?

Regards,

He would have settled for commitment to the Minsk Agreements, that Ukraine signed on to in 2014 & 2015.

Yep. This was all completely unnecessary. If anything, we should have been trying to draw Russia in. The absolute last thing we ever should have wanted was to push Russia right into China’s arms. Yet.......

Jinping probably asked Biden to provoke Russia and start a war with them by giving false hope to Ukraine, so corporate media would focus on something else and not China or it’s behind-the-scenes mischief.

Thanks for the communist propoganda, comrade Kazan.
Putin and his KGB buddies wish to restore the soviet empire. If they conquer Ukraine, the next was will be in Moldova, which would spill over into Romania, a NATO member. And then we have KGB Russia's plans to retake the NATO members of Estonia, Latvia, and Lithuania. Ukraine is preventing a war between NATO and your beloved KGB Russia. Speaking of which KGB Russia is allied with China, and a Russian victory over the West is a Chinese victory, which increases the likelihood of a communist invasion of Taiwan. The real question is why the Lord Haw Haw crowd so desperately want a victory of KGB Russia and Commmunist China over America andour allies, while LARPING as conservatives.
