There's another picture floating around that purports to be a different example of a similar homemade type, previously found by Japanese police.

Clearly this isn't the same gun, but if the shooter's gun is similar, it might be striker fired.

I got electric ignition of gunpowder to work, @50 years ago. I used small light bulbs and DC batteries to explode charges of gunpowder underwater. The filaments, without the glass, would flare, and fairly reliably ignite the gunpowder.
