James Caan, the curly-haired tough guy known to movie fans as the hotheaded Sonny Corleone of “The Godfather” and to television audiences as both the dying football player in the classic weeper “Brian’s Song” and the casino boss in “Las Vegas,” has died. He was 82.

Also good in The Gambler, in which he plays a college professor who is a compulsive gambler
RIP James
El Dorado, Cinderella Liberty and Rollerball, a few of my favorites
He was the best thing in Ah-nold’s Eraser. Misery is probably my fav of all.
James Cann was brilliant in many roles. In roles such as in The Godfather
I think his greatest role was in “Roller Ball”. Madrid verses Houston to death. It was oddly a dystopian film that could have been taken from the logic of George Orwell’s 1984. I suspect the authors of “Roller Ball” read 1984.
Rollerball was a good movie. I snuck into the theater as a minor to see that R rated movie.
Bada beep bada boop badabop he wants to talk.
“..would you just do what i tell you to do...GD it, if i had a war time consiglieri, a Sicilian, i wouldn’t be in this shape...Pop had Genco, look what i got”.....
He was also in A Bridge Too Far as SSG Charles ‘Eddie’ Dohun.
James Caan RIP and much Thanks for for your great body of work. Including one of my favorites: https://www.joblo.com/the-best-movie-you-never-saw-alien-nation/
His best movie was Thief…. not even close
“no, not this time consilgleri..no more meetins, no more discussions..no more Silozzo tricks. You give em one message, i want Silozzo..if not, then its all out war, we go to the mattresses”.....
He was grand in the gambler, perfectly suited, brilliantly sharp-edged.
Never forget the terrific scene when Cann is finally IN the vault, grabbing a chair, kicking it around in front of him, then tugging off his heavy gloves to light up, at last, a rich cool smoke. Phewwww!
Agree “Thief” was highly underated. I loved that movie.
He had a career from black and white television to today. Being a big sci-fi fan, the first movie I remember him in was Rollerball. 1960s and 1970s scifi was cool.
I remember one of his early roles in John Wayne’s Western, El Dorado
One of the greatest lines of the movie.
Acted perfectly
