The first printing of the Declaration of Independence has one signature - John Hancock.

When he saw it, he asked, “Is mine the only treason?”

That’s when he insisted they come back later to sign what is now known as the engrossed copy (Aug., 1776).

The copy of the Declaration sent to King George has one signature.
