I’m curious as to what actions people would like to be taken when it comes to a young man like this. Lock him up for vague threats? Prevent him from ever buying a gun? Mental hospital until he’s cleared by a doctor?

This is the type of person who, back in the 1960s, would be sent to a mental institution for observation.

Today those mental institutions are closed. Almost every mass shooter from the 1970s till now would have been in such a facility, IF they were still open.

A difficult question, but the answer can't be "nothing" until they shoot up a bunch od innocent citizens. This guy was obviously a lunatic.

Prevent him from acquiring firearms, if he's using marijuana, benzodiazepines, meth, ecstasy, psilocybin mushrooms, or etc... Or simply start that often whined-about, fictitious "war on drugs" that never really happened, yet. Rewards for informants everywhere, and drug tests for every suspect. Courts weighing against drug users in every case involving conflict or assault.

When freaks like this try to commit suicide i say let them. Encourage them. Help them to do it if possible.
