Highland Park July 4 shooting suspect had two prior incidents of suicidal, violent threats, police say

The suspect in the Highland Park, Illinois July 4 mass shooting that killed seven and injured dozens had two "prior incidents" before the massacre, police said on Tuesday.

Robert "Bobby" E. Crimo, 21, was taken into custody Monday evening after gunning down revelers from a rooftop perch at the Highland Park July 4 parade.

Speaking to reporters at an afternoon press conference, Christopher Covelli said Crimo had two prior incidents before the shooting.

In April 2019, an individual called police a week after learning of Crimo attempting suicide, Covelli said. The matter was handled by mental health professionals with no law enforcement, he added.

In September 2019, a family member reported Crimo had a collection of knives and "was going to kill everyone," Covelli said. Police responded to the incident and seized 16 knives, a dagger, and a sword from Crimo’s possession, Covelli said. Highland Park police notified Illinois State Police of the incident but no further actions were taken.

Despite these incidents, Crimo managed to legally buy two high-powered rifles and three other weapons that have since been recovered by officers from his father’s home. Covelli said there was no sign he had any guns at the time of the 2019 incident, nor had he any application pending for a gun.

2. The picture below is quite suspicious. The killer, Robert Crimo is the man in the red and white sweater and hat. On the surface it appears to be a picture of some young people marching in a Trump parade. The three people on the left are focusing forward. One of them is carrying a sign with "Biden" in big letters with some meaningless scribble below. We can see that these five people have only taken a couple of steps, because the people behind them are stationary, and lounging around. This is not a parade of any kind.

There is a kid to the right of Crimo. He and Crimo are taking pictures or video of Crimo as if to establish a record of Crimo's supposed participation in what is obviously a staged, fake event.

Then Crimo went out and murdered seven people. Crimo planned the murders of independence day revelers in order to confiscate the right of self defense of law abiding citizens. The leftists who are abetting this idiot are accomplices in his murders.

I’m curious as to what actions people would like to be taken when it comes to a young man like this.

A difficult question, but the answer can't be "nothing" until they shoot up a bunch od innocent citizens. This guy was obviously a lunatic.

Prevent him from acquiring firearms, if he's using marijuana, benzodiazepines, meth, ecstasy, psilocybin mushrooms, or etc... Or simply start that often whined-about, fictitious "war on drugs" that never really happened, yet. Rewards for informants everywhere, and drug tests for every suspect. Courts weighing against drug users in every case involving conflict or assault.

After looking at this guy’s picture, his substance use pattern seems like an obvious research question. What was he using the day of the 4th? What has he used in the past that might leave him so deranged.

A substance use answer probably wouldn’t help stop the shooters, but it might clue us in about how we are raising monsters.
