The toll the labor shortage is taking on the U.S. economy isn't getting better. There's a partial solution that's got bipartisan support but hardly any momentum behind it: allow more migrants into the country.
According to data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics, there are about twice as many open jobs as there are people looking for work. This has employers competing for staff, often with higher wages. Higher labor costs often get passed onto customers, contributing to the highest inflation in four decades.

Got it. I've got a BBA w/accounting major. But I missed that formula along the way.
Have wages even gone up that much? Especially compared to the rate of inflation.
How about stopping abortion/killing babies so more children can be born?
Stop making it more appealing to stay home on unemployment and this problem will fix itself.
Jobs that pay too much for the wealth they generate are ripe for automating them.
We only have a higher percentage of the population born abroad than at any time in our history. House prices are soaring beyond the reach of much of the middle class. The solution is clearly to bring in yet MORE! Otherwise corporate profits might suffer (shudder). We certainly wouldn’t want something so awful as that would we?
I’ve got an idea. Pay people more. When you pay more, you get more workers. More people who have retired will choose to come back in the workforce. What we need is less immigration. We also need to deport the tens of millions of illegal aliens who are here. Frankly, we need to deport a lot of the legal immigrants like Ilhan Omar.
Semi-retirement is a great option for older Americans.
I know from personal experience.
I just read the latest posted County Sheriff’s report on the local radio station website. A lot of meth arrests . . . I doubt they were looking for work.
This author smoking crack?
Your comment does indeed address the real problem - for the unskilled, Welfare pays better than work. But I would be willing to bet that there are more than enough USA citizens available to fill the available job openings without having to import the scum of the earth.
That implies that the real problem is logistical - getting those USA citizens to where the work is followed by the issue of training. I think the first item of business is to require businesses to hire citizens first and if that cannot happen, require massive paperwork (and possibly huge fines) for justifying hiring a non-citizen. Use the bureaucracy for the USA citizen instead of allowing it to work against us.
Complete. Total. BULL !
Stop giving money away for American workers to sit at home watching tv reruns
No. But the goodies are sustaining those that don’t work. For example a single person receives 250 a month in food stamps. A family of four gets 645 a month in food stamps. That’s just one Bennie. Why work when you make more sitting on your butt then the cashier at a grocery store.
All by design. Keep the natives fat, dumb and happy and bring in a endless supply of human drones to do the dirty work.
Yet moar people than ever at home on unemployment or welfare....
62% labor participation rates for 16 to 64 years old. 82% for 25 to 54 years old. We already bring in 1.1 million legal permanent immigrants annually. Only 12% of those are based on merit. We don’t need to increase legal immigration, rather reduce the numbers and go to a merit based system to import the skills we need.
Yep. I just find it dumb to give so much money out. I mean 250 for a single person is a lot of money.
I thought the slackers would be watching Disney+, actually….
By October the labor supply won’t be a problem as the recession bites.
