Russia says it holds all of Ukraine’s Luhansk with capture of last city

Russia’s Defence Minister Sergei Shoigu told President Vladimir Putin on Sunday that Moscow and its allies now controlled all of Ukraine’s Luhansk region after capturing the last major city, Lysychansk.

(cut)

The ministry had said earlier on Sunday that its troops had captured the villages surrounding Lysychansk, encircling the area, and were fighting inside the city.

Calls to the Ukrainian General Staff and Defence Ministry went unanswered. The ministry did not immediately respond to an emailed request for comment.

““Ukrainian forces likely conducted a deliberate withdrawal from Lysychansk, resulting in the Russian seizure of the city on July 2,” analysts at the Institute for the Study of War, a Washington-based think tank, wrote in a briefing note.”

I wonder who this bunch in DC answers to?

Wow, hadn’t even thought that far. I forgot that the NUMBER TWO country that Trump got blasted over was Saudi Arabia. Perhaps the Saudis are seeing what happens to countries that try to work with us, like Russia, and are deciding to get ahead of the game and throwing their hands in with the BRICS. If so, we sure as hell better start drilling for oil.

“After this point, if Zelensky can’t get permission to negotiate (from his U.S. State Dept. bosses and paymasters), Ukraine will lose Kharkiv (majority ethnic Russian) and Odessa (ditto”

Most of the people who have been right about this special military operation in the past, the ones who’ve said for months that the Russians were pounding the crap out of Ukraine’s army, before advancing (which looked like meeting against ‘fierce resistance’, but wasn’t), have also concluded that both Odessa and Kharkiv will be liberated by Russia and Russia will keep them in any post war negotiations. That wasn’t true at the beginning, but the Neocons just had to keep their war going, and so here we are.

Found a good updated map.

Your guess is as good as mine where the final lines will be drawn. I think Kharkiv will be taken and kept by the Russians, Odessa is more of a question. Russia may calculate that leaving Odessa in Ukraine will help Russia in re-establishing diplomatic norms post-war. Taking Odessa and leaving Rump Ukraine landlocked would be seen as pretty scorched-earth. But you cannot discount Russian anger about the 2014 Maidan Coup/Revolution, and especially the arson massacre of Russians in the trade union building. So who knows.

...just to finish the above, it’s now more of a question as to whether Ukraine as a country even exists when the fighting ends, or is its territory simply divided up amongst its neighbors.

So, Ukraine is still winning and only needs more time and more of our money (billions) and more of America suffering because of Biden’s proxy war and political dealings.

Russians seeing “liberation” videos constantly on television is going to boost their morale for going all the way, at least to Kharkiv and Odessa.

You cannot discount the psychology. Russian troops rotating home from Ukraine are given heroic parades. Now, liberation videos.

“No translation needed. You can feel the emotions - Lisichansk”

2 minute video. listen to the audio. Along with rotating troops “welcome home” parades, Russians are now seeing these. This will boost the psychology to continue.

The Poles are starting to discuss the injustice of the post WW2 border. Now the Poles are angry about the Ukrainian ambassador to Germany defending Stepan Bandera and denying mass murder of Poles and Jews. Watch the video linked by Glenn Greenwald below.

Glenn Greenwald
@ggreenwald
When you watch Ukrainian officials lovingly interviewed by CNN or BBC, they often have photos of national hero Stepan Bandera on their wall.

He’s a Nazi collaborator who mass-murdered Jews and Poles.

I think attacking Ukraine in the first place was wrong, but reality bites.

*************

Putin saw two things that led him to invade: the debacle in Afghanistan and Biden’s weakness.

If Trump was still president the invasion would never have happened IMO.

I bet most of the weapons we send to Ukraine will wind up in the wrong hands. Just like in Afghanistan.

Don’t underestimate the morale/psychology factor of Russians watching this on television. Watch the above “liberation” video, and this one.

Locals in Lisichansk: “We’ve waited for you since 2014”... “We’ve waited... They left? Thank God... You won’t leave anymore, will you?”

“The Poles are starting to discuss the injustice of the post WW2 border.”

I’ve been thinking that the Russians will work with Poland to put an end to Ukraine, both for the two reasons that you state: The way the borders were drawn up after WW2 and their love of Bandera. Basically, the last time the Poles had to deal with a Nazi-run state on their border, it didn’t end well.

Map already needs to be changed. Russia now controls all of Ukraine’s Luhansk region after capturing the last major city, Lysychansk.

Agreed.

Moreover, if Hillary’s Russian Hoax was not wielded by the Deep State and DNCMedia, I think Trump and Putin would have had a great friendship or at least an understanding that would result in an entirely different world today.

A BETTER world.

Never forget! The famine and hardship that comes out of this is right in the lap of Hillary, the Deep State and above all the ultra-partisan, TDS press.

I suspect that Trump would have foreseen the damage caused by sanctions to the rest of the world and found other ways to discourage Putin.

Sadly we are basically run by a massive administrative state with unchecked power. We are a republic in name only now.

“Ukraine” may go back to “The Ukraine,” translated as “The Borderland,” as opposed to a sovereign nation (since 1991).

Agree, and I feel bad for them. The people living there didn’t want the Neocon Adventure, which is now destroying their country (by the way, the neocons continue with a PERFECT RECORD), but they’re stuck with it.

I can’t believe how many FReepers are, unwittingly, on Team Nuland/Vindman/Soros in supporting the catastrophe visited upon Ukraine since the 2014 coup.

Tell me about it. The last time the US got it right was the first war against Iraq. After that, it’s been non-stop DISASTER. And then Neocons went after Russia, who is not interested in being another bitch in their Globalist agenda, and who have the resources to fight back.

Where people here like it or not, we’re watching Putin do something that even Trump couldn’t do as president, which is KILL THE NEOCON AGENDA.
