The NYPD’s rank-and-file took another huge hit in June, as 523 cops are leaving the force, with 123 of those officers resigning — the most in a single month in at least a decade, according to staggering pension fund stats obtained by The Post.
Of the total number of cops exiting, 400 are retiring, according to a police source.
To date, 2,119 cops have left the job in 2022, with 1,472 retiring and 647 resigning, a 38% spike over the previous record of 1,535 for the first six months of 2020, the attrition numbers show.
“The exodus has become a stampede. We’re not only losing experienced veterans. We’re also losing cops in the prime of their careers who are taking their talents elsewhere,” said Police Benevolent Association President Patrick Lynch.
Anti-cop hostility, bail reform, rising crime and the city’s vaccination mandate — currently on pause — have agitated the rank and file, who are looking to greener pastures by taking other civil service tests and heading to police departments, such as on Long Island, or the Port Authority, MTA and out of state, like Florida, Texas and Arizona.

I’m sure they’ll get good offers in Florida.
Obama and Holder win.
Any new cops that are brought in can be much more easily molded into useless woke bureaucrats and leftist drones.
Kinda brings that old movie “escape from ny” into perspective.
Well, that’s just another reason for the DC Feds to usher in a nationalized police force. It’s what all dictatorships do in order to disarm and control the people.
Welcome them at your peril.
“I’m sure they’ll get good offers in Florida.”
That was my observation from as far back as the 1990s where the 20-year retirees from up north would get a second career/pension in LE in FL. I had extended conversations with a few while on a cruise back then and it appears that I-95 is still open.
New York voters getting what they voted for...good and hard.
We’re approaching that, can Soylent Geen and The Terminator be far behind?
Perhaps the mayor can request UN peacekeepers to come to NYC and take over policing activities. I am sure the blue helmets will be welcomed with open arms. /s.
The cops flee and the Democrat run cities replace them with the released criminals from prison. A total success from the democrat party perspective. Then followed by the state national guard occupation.
Menckenville.
Suburban white males cannot police urban minorities in Democratic run cities. Urban America is unlivable.
So it's time for the last remaining norms to leave NYS.
Doesn’t/ didn’t NYC have something like 39,000 LEOs?
Don’t question the trend, but the article only gives data on retirements and resignations. What about the size of the total force compared to prior years. Is that decreasing rapidly? Are they able to hire replacements?
The Mayor will go to the Prisons for recruits like in the Dirty Dozen
When I was in the Coast Guard in ‘73 it was widely touted that the NYPD was larger than the Coast Guard, and they were.
Much like the DC swamp wants to keep Trump and his kind out of the White House, the NYC swamp wants to keep Giulianni types out of Gracie Mansion. You have no idea how many people still resent Rudy cleaning up Times Square.
