Judges have ruled the case of whether to end life-support treatment for a 12-year-old boy with brain damage should be reconsidered by the High Court.
Earlier this month a High Court judge ruled Archie Battersbee was dead - but the case was considered by the Court of Appeal on Wednesday and three appeal judges concluded there should be another High Court hearing.
Doctors treating Archie at the Royal London Hospital in Whitechapel, east London, argue that his life support treatment should end.
But his parents, Hollie Dance and Paul Battersbee, want the treatment to continue, saying the youngster's heart is still beating and he has gripped his mother's hand.
Mrs Justice Arbuthnot ruled that doctors could lawfully stop providing treatment to Archie, after considering evidence at a trial in the Family Division of the High Court in London.
Doctors treating Archie told her they think he is "brain-stem dead" and should be disconnected from a ventilator.

These cases are very sad, but in a socialized medicine system, you cannot continue to expend resources on a terminal case indefinately. If the parents want to pay... go for it.
Pro-Life is more than abortion.
I would never want to be kept alive in this type of case. These parents, bless them can’t let go. But, if they pay for his care, they should be able to go for it. If not, they should not expect others to pay. My heart goes out to these folks.
Dead but hooked up to machines to animate the body is not a LIFE no matter how you qualify it.
Socialized medicine ALWAYS results in death panels.
Gotta save money keep that bottom line bottom etc. etc.
There have been a few cases where people have been pronounced brain dead and made full recovery, more where there is a partial recovery.
Search Zack Dunlap. Oklahoma, prepped for organ donation following ATV accident, Abigail Kopf, Michigan, declared dead after being shot.

It is rare, sure. But it happens.
Perhaps his usable organs can give life or improved health to several others.
Yep
There's only so many life-support machines, and not enough for those who need them. If you keep this one in use, it means someone else dies.
