SANTA FE, N.M. (KRQE) – Amid the U.S. Supreme Court decision overturning Roe v. Wade and ending federal protections on the right to an abortion, New Mexico’s Governor signed an executive order Monday related to abortion access in the state. The order addresses issues several outstanding issues as they related to New Mexico’s willingness to help other states that now have different laws on the books related to abortion.
The order comes as New Mexico lawmakers consider more definitions surrounding abortion following the state’s 2021 law, repealing a 1969 abortion ban in New Mexico. The governor was joined at Monday’s press conference by lawmakers and reproductive rights advocates, including Senate Majority Whip Linda Lopez (D-Albuquerque), and representatives of Planned Parenthood of the Rocky Mountains and the ACLU of New Mexico.
“We will not further imperil the rights and access points of anyone in the state of New Mexico,” Governor Lujan Grisham said. “As long as I’m Governor, everyone in the state of New Mexico will be protected, out of state residents seeking access will be protected, providers will be protected, and abortion is, and will continue to be legal, safe and accessible.”

I noticed this trend of executive orders really ramped up during Obama reign. Now governors and even mayors seem to issue them like candy to children on Halloween.
What happened to passing and making laws through the legislative process? Is this another new normal?
NM is having major problems with forest fires and drought is hammering the state with water issues.

Did a Pediatric Neurology rotation when I was in med school some 30 years ago.
Saw teenagers who were playing sports and going to college who were born months, MONTHS, premature. They were fine normal kids.
What we can do for preemies now is even far more advanced.

Due to the Texas law prior to The Roe decision travelers from there for abortions went from 300 to 1700.

Just did a motorcycle trip down route 66 last month. I apologize if I offend any NM residents here, but despite some really beautiful scenery and great landmarks, the people were by far the rudest we encountered anywhere. Did meet a nice couple in Albuquerque but they agreed, people are just not friendly there, and still ran into a few businesses still requiring masks, and just rude and in your face about it. Way to many stupid liberals.
Our country is not what we grew up believing it was.
