California to become first state offering health care to all undocumented residents

California will become the first state to remove immigration status as a barrier to health care, making all low-income undocumented residents eligible for state-subsidized insurance regardless of age.

Gov. Gavin Newsom late Sunday announced a budget deal he struck with the Legislature included a new Medi-Cal expansion that would cover more undocumented adults.

The program’s launch, starting no later than Jan. 1, 2024, is expected to provide full coverage for approximately 700,000 undocumented residents ages 26-49 and lead to the largest drop in the rate of uninsured Californians in a decade.

“This historic investment speaks to California’s commitment to healthcare as a human right,” said Sen. María Elena Durazo, D-Los Angeles.

The state already allows many undocumented residents to join Medi-Cal. In 2015, California began allowing undocumented children to join Medi-Cal. Four years later, eligibility broadened to those younger than 26. And in May, the state started covering people aged 50 and over.

The MediCal expansion is expected to cost $2.6 billion annually.

MediCal is the California version of Medicare

No, Medical is the California version of Medicaid.

My mom, who lived, worked, and paid taxes in California for seventy years made too much money with her Social Security check to get any kind of help from the state in her final illness. Juan, who snuck across the border a year ago would be eligible for all kinds of medical and financial help from the state.

No. Welcome to the party pal. Where you been. Are you new or a retread? Some of us have been here for a long time. Your awfully new to be accusing people of just waking up since you got here. Learn to learn who are on the right side (everyone here) or your stay will be very short.

I don’t mind retreads unless they were banned for being liberals. Banned for getting frustrated and going too far in comments, I’m ok with that but it’s not my site. New and being a newbie bitch, you won’t last imho. We all see the cheating elections, graft, corruption…. If your just now waking up - cool but your late for class so don’t piss everyone off. Your late.

If you just want to argue, say it. That way we know how to deal with you. True awakening the learn. Or you can FO. I don’t care that much.

My cousins husband was a buyer at a hospital in Los Angeles that had to close due to illegals going there and not paying. He got another job soon after in another hospital. The price of hospital insurance will go way up as will the cost because illegals will not pay anything. AMERICANS WILL!

My car insurance went from $52 to current $137 because illegals get licenses and cause many accidents and do not pay.

Even Los Angeles was solid R in the 1988 election, and then right after that mysteriously after the Democrats started doing “ballot harvesting” it switched for absolutely no reason whatsoever...

Michael Dukakis actually won Los Angeles County in 1988 election...51.89%

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1988_United_States_presidential_election_in_California

However, George H.W. Bush did win in CA in 1988...He is the last GOP nominee to win CA...

Los Angeles County is a liberal area, not a conservative area...Many conservatives moved out of LA County...Liberals replaced them...

700,000 undocumented ‘residents?’ What a laugh....how about at least 7 million for starters?
