WASHINGTON (AP) — A political shift is beginning to take hold across the U.S. as tens of thousands of suburban swing voters who helped fuel the Democratic Party's gains in recent years are becoming Republicans.
More than 1 million voters across 43 states have switched to the Republican Party over the last year, according to voter registration data analyzed by The Associated Press. The previously unreported number reflects a phenomenon that is playing out in virtually every region of the country — Democratic and Republican states along with cities and small towns — in the period since President Joe Biden replaced former President Donald Trump.
But nowhere is the shift more pronounced — and dangerous for Democrats — than in the suburbs, where well-educated swing voters who turned against Trump's Republican Party in recent years appear to be swinging back. Over the last year, far more people are switching to the GOP across suburban counties from Denver to Atlanta and Pittsburgh and Cleveland. Republicans also gained ground in counties around medium-size cities such as Harrisburg, Pennsylvania; Raleigh, North Carolina; Augusta, Georgia; and Des Moines, Iowa.

I agree 100%.
I do not side with those who want to abandon the GOP and start their own party. Their party will end up the same as the GOP, polluted with charlatans, wanna-bees and Dem Lite.
The only way is to do the hard work of taking over the GOP from the inside.
PS: I live in Franklin County
Indeed the democrats are now setting up sleeper republicans.
Democrat “Operation Chaos”?
By switching to the GOP, they can vote in RINO candidates over strong conservative candidates.

Sorry for the double post.
Those could be Dems switching to vote in R primaries.
Those are great!
I’ll add a Sarah Palin: Drill, baby, drill!
We're also pulling in Hispanics, Asians, traditional black men and young people of all races.
But are they Democrats in Red areas who are only doing it to vote for non-MAGA RINO candidates in the primaries?
Harsh realities getting through to more folks, and making them grow up a bit?
I heard this morning that Liz Cheney is sending out letters to dems in her state with instructions on how to switch parties in an attempt to ‘save’ her own candidacy.
It’s better than that though.
When we register a new voter, it is +1 for our side.
When we convert a previous Dem voter, it is +2 (we add one vote, and they lose one).
This is a significant trend. If we can keep it up, the Red tsunami will indeed strike in November.
Well said!
The last poll before the Trump rally in WY supporting Hageman had Hageman up 56-26%. Every D in the state could swing behind Cheney and it wouldn't save her.
It will be a delicious win for us if that *(^*^! loses. I’m not into gloating but will make an exception for her.
But this is all for naught cause of the ruling striking down Roe according to the pundits.
I left back when McCain was our nominee.
Won’t matter in their grand scheme of things.
Same bird with two wings.
It’s interesting. The liberal media screams that most people support Roe per polls. But then polls that ask if it is a matter that should be decided by states/elections vs. SCOTUS say most people agree with striking down Roe (even if they don’t understand that). And most people support at least some restrictions.
So I think there is the potential for Democrats to run themselves into a buzz saw, telling themselves they have a popular position to run with, only to discover they are turning most people off. My own thought is that it will take a few years for the dust to settle, but five years down the road it will be abortion defenders playing defense against limited attempts to restrict abortion in blue states, rather than red states loosening their abortion restrictions.
Through 2006, Republicans outnumbered Democrats by over 25%. Now that margin is down to less than 15% and Cumberland was one of the few counties in PA to trend leftward (in terms of voter registrations) during Trump's term.

It's not hard to guess where the new liberal voters are coming from -- Rats fleeing the disgusting sewer known as Harrisburg.
