Like a Broadway musical – or an absurdist play – the state of New York is conducting primary elections in two acts this year: gubernatorial and certain state elections on Tuesday, congressional and other legislative races in late August.
Party disputes over redistricting led to the two-part primary set-up that could reduce turnout, increase friction between the parties and confuse large numbers of voters, political analysts said.
"It's a total mess," said Grant Reeher, director of the Campbell Public Affairs Institute at Syracuse University's Maxwell School. "It was an embarrassment to the state ... It doesn't serve the interests of the voters."
Voters in the know will decide only certain state elections on Tuesday, including State Assembly races and spirited Democratic and Republican primaries for the governor's office.

most secure election ever!
For some folks this means four times...sarc
It’s a total mess. Lots of confusion. No one knows what’s up or what’s down. Aaaaaaaaand ... the Democrat wins.
Why bother the Democrats will tell you who won
I changed my party affiliation from Republican to No Party after January 6th. I can’t vote in the New York State primaries, and that’s just fine with me.
The problem is very simple, Dominion counts the votes in all NY counties except Erie and Albany, and in NYC. They will determine who wins. It will be Lee Zelden Vs Kathy Hochul. We’re screwed.
Insane NY...
Hochul’s antics in trying to get her corrupt Lt. Governor off the ballot may wind up hurting her.
State law previously said that the only way a candidate could get off the ballot was to die, move out of state, or get nominated for another office (for many years, it specifically said a judgeshup, but they loosened that a few years ago.)
Hochul, after succeeding Cuomo, picked a state legiator tobe her Lt. Governor based on his ckin color, and he got indicted. Hochul immediately got the Legislature to loosen up the requirements to get off the ballot so her LG could be dumped, lest he get nomianted.
Well, that could come back to haunt her. There are four Republicans running in the primary for Governor: Rep. Lee Zeldin, Andrew Giuliani, Harry Wilson, and former Westchester County Executive Rob Astorino, who was hte Republican-Conservative nominee for governor in 2014.
Now, Zeldin has the Conservative party loine. Under hte old rules, it would be difficult to get Rep. Zeldin out of the race should he lose th eprimary Tuesday. But under the new rules, it would be much easier for the Conservative Party to replace Zeldin with anotehr candidate, should that other candidate win the primary.
A unified Republican-Conservative ticket is necessary to hve a shot at beating Hochul. In George Pataki’s last two elections, his vote on the Conservative line was more than his margin of victory.
All part of a plan to muddy the election and to steal it. How many times have we seen the election map. state is all red and a very minute are is blue, bingo the rats win
