Russia originated from small Grand Duchy of Moscow.
Just Moscow, a small town on a small hill surrounded by river Moscow and tributary creek joining it (now flowing underground of the city) in the middle of swamps.
Plus some environs.
All the rest was acquired by force!
No wonder, Russia likes to use force.
