There are 7,000 unaccounted for former Soviet Union biological warfare scientists and technicians inthe world as of 2002. That hunt continues because of the possibility they could be hired by various regimes like Iran or Norh Korea, as happened with some Iraqi weapons scientists, who were found working on Libya’s nuclear program. When the USSR collapsed these 7000 lost their jobs and it would not have taken much to hire them.
