It sounds like they just eliminated the need for a CCW permit for the 25 states that still required themWouldn't that rattle the gun confiscators

My concern is SCOTUS rules one way on each issue, so this could be setting up for disappointment on Roe... to placate everyone.

The same restrictions are here in New Jersey; identical to New York's "proper cause" bullshit.
I am hoping that, because of this ruling by SCOTUS, that an effort begins in NJ to finally end it and allow law abiding citizens to carry.

I wonder if I can carry in NJ with my PA permit and residency?

Breyer wrote a looooong dissent, basically saying how horrible “gun violence” is and that that should be how the governments should be able to regulate your right to keep and bear arms.

Just downloaded it from the SCOTUS website. I glanced quickly at it and noticed that that old windbag,Bryer, wrote a 40 page dissent.
It will be interesting to see what Rat Party hacks in New York,Kalifornia,Massachusetts, etc will do to circumvent this. Maybe a $200 tax on each round of ammunition sold in their state. Or,perhaps,a $200 per round *Federal* tax.
We know that the Rats won't let this stand.

I remain hopeful, we'll see.
This will probably have to be "tested" in some NJ courts to see if NJ is truly a part of the United States....

“It sounds like they just eliminated the need for a CCW permit for the 25 states that still required them”
I would have to read more-—but I’m sure somewhere in the text there’s the “each state sets the rules” type of thing...I would love to carry in NJ. I live in PA and cringe every time I have to cross the bridge into NJ.

Yes,that's another *very* good point! If my driver's license is respected in the other 49 states (and DC...Puerto Rico...etc) why shouldn't my LTC be respected?

Somebody remarks at SCOTUSBlog, “NY will go the DC route and try to make it so onerous it will take a few more losses in court to come to a reasonable and lawful solution... DC lost a couple of other times in lower courts post-Heller trying to make it as hard as possible, I believe.”
I think that’s accurate. This ruling doesn’t do much, as a practical matter. It leaves the state free to erect fairly onerous licensing procedures. use your imagination about what the requirements could be ...
- background check by FBI, paid by applicant
- waiting period 3, 6, 18 months ... where’s THAT line?
- fees. $500, $1,000, $30, where is THAT line?
- firearm limitations. .22 caliber only
Make the public litigate every single point. SOTUS will let the lower court rulings stand, even if they are opposed to this case. SCOTUS has a practice of that in RKBA cases. Looks good on paper.

The way I read the ruling, it sounds like it goes much farther than just the New York rule. It says individuals have a constitutional right to self defense with a gun outside the home. That would seem to me to strike down pretty much every restriction or licensing scheme for concealed carry nationwide. Unfortunately, I don't think we now have nationwide Constitutional Carry.
The order of the court in this case was to remand to the lower court and rule based on this opinion. Which means that the State of New York will be directed by the Appellate Court to issue concealed carry licenses to Petitioners Brandon Koch and Robert Nash, and by extension to anyone else who otherwise meets the New York criteria to obtain an concealed carry permit, without having to meet New York's "special needs" provision.

This definition of “bear” naturally encompasses public carry. Most gun owners do not wear a holstered pistol at their hip in their bedroom or while sitting at the dinner ta- ble. Although individuals often “keep” firearms in their home, at the ready for self-defense, most do not “bear” (i.e., carry) them in the home beyond moments of actual confron- tation. To confine the right to “bear” arms to the home would nullify half of the Second Amendment’s operative protections.

“NY will go the DC route and try to make it so onerous it will take a few more losses in court to come to a reasonable and lawful solutionWell it is NY so I can't disagree. But the more cases the court hears the more our rights will be precedent so they would be stupid to try that, but they will.

Any fee imposed on a CCW would be the equivalent to a poll tax.
If I read this right.
