Austria, Germany, Italy and the Netherlands announced plans this week to prepare to resurrect old coal plants as gas supplies dwindled. The moves came just days after Moscow reduced natural gas flows to several European countries, including Italy and Slovakia, alarming leaders who are worried about energy reserves ahead of winter.
That’s not the direction in which these government wanted to move. A return to coal would controvert climate policy already in place in Amsterdam and Berlin. Some officials are concerned about the longer-term threat such a move would post to efforts to fight climate change in Europe.
“We have to make sure that we use this crisis to move forward and not to have a backsliding on the dirty fossil fuels,” European Commission chief Ursula von der Leyen told reporters Tuesday.
Germany says it is restarting some coal power plants, while Austria is outfitting an existing plant to use coal. In the Netherlands, authorities have lifted production caps on coal-fired plants.
When it came to power late last year, the new German coalition government made up of the center-left Social Democrats, Greens and the liberal Free Democrats had put climate policy at the center of its agenda aiming to bring forward the country’s coal exit to 2030. Its ambitious plans also include aiming to reach net-zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2045. But Russia’s war in Ukraine has shaken up plans amid uncertainty about Moscow’s natural gas supply cuts.

Peace is the answer.
I think I have the black lung pop…
Awesome...now the freaks are going to HAVE to explain why they want people to freeze in the dark.
Actually it should send them closer to nuclear power, which France is, I believe, leading Europe in the number of state of the art reactors.
Back to coal. And back to nuclear.
Trump tried to warn them.
n his 2008 book, The Return of Depression Economics and the Crisis of 2008, Paul Krugman writes: “The Great Depression in the United States was brought to an end by a massive deficit-financed public works program, known as World War II.”

Could send. It already is.
Why would they be concerned about Winter when the Planet is in Fire and about to spontaneous combust from burning “fossil” fuels?? Can’t they just distribute blocks of Dry Ice to everyone to put in their homes to create their very own Greenhouse Effect and warm their homes like we are warming the planet??
Too much war profiteering and money laundering to promote that.
I’ll confess, I am completely in the dark (no pun intended) as to why Europe has no, none, zero, nat gas. If they have it and never developed it, then they are blithering fools. But my understanding is that where there is coal, nat gas is also to be found.
The Euro-Greenies will not be pleased.....
Of course the Euroweenie politicians will INSIST that CO2 targets be met, so expect cars to be BANNED. These idiot politicians will tell the populace, either keep your cars, or freeze in the dark!
These revolting politicians will continue this until the people revolt against these revolting politicians.
Ash holes, all!

Populations Must Do More For Ukraine Even If “Costs Of Food & Fuel Are High”: NATO Chief
2.) Pete Buttigieg calls for new Marshall plan to rebuild Ukraine

In modern dollars this would mean $1 trillion in taxpayer dollars for Ukraine while Brandon prints and spends and/or borrows and spends, gas prices are through the roof, baby food shortages are occuring, Europe won’t grow up and deal with its own backyard, we don’t protect our own borders, crime is rampant, etc.
I can’t wait to hear the spin on why they choose coal and not green energy solutions. The fear of freezing to death in winter is greater than desire to save Mother Gaia. I understand the basis of their decisions, but do any of these leftist globalists have to guts and honesty to say green energy is a failure.
The Greenie-in-Chief was just informed of this decision. She is not happy.
