Railroads can run engineer only crews in many situations and should be allowed to do so.

In the states that only allow 80,000 pound gross weight, a closed tandem trailer can only carry 7,000 gallons.

Out west - or also in Michigan- gross weights are 105,500 pounds - 4 axle tractors with 4 axle trailers can carry 11,000 gallons or more. (Some states like UT and WY allow 129,000 gross weights - or 14,000 gallons per load.)

Really simple solution - allow 105,500 pounds in ALL states. Require strict axle weight limits to ensure the roadways and bridges can handle these loads, or designate specific routes in each state. Oregon and Idaho are specific about where heavy haul goes.

I run heavy haul propane - 12,300 gallons per load over any scale.Refined fuel haulers here in WA run the same gallon totals since their trailers weigh very little, and mine is heavy.

made clear that higher volumes and labor constraints presented obstacles to providing better rail service……

Concerned over the workforce shortage, on Apr. 7…….

Well, a hedge fund, Mantle Ridge, it’s CEO - Paul Hilal and his former right hand man, Hunter Harrison destroyed 3 railroads: CN CP CSX. It was done using the Wall St/Harvard MBA strategy of firing as many people as you can, trying to consolidate that which shouldn’t be consolidated and then trying to maintain a viable company.

CSX fired thousands. Ran longer and heavier trains resulting in more delays, derailments and other problems. And then implemented the true and true policy of: if you don’t like working here, there a folks lined up to take your job. Problem is, there a tent folks lined up to take those jobs. CSX has been offering cash bonuses and giving away F150s for employees

All of that done to pump up stock prices for an eventual sale so they could all walk away with even more money

Harrison’s original compensation package had him earning about $90-100
Million for 4 years. But good news, after destroying lives he died of cancer.

Sadly, NS followed the same management practices and is now begging for workers.

And wouldn’t you know it, the two biggest funds in the country control UP and now they’re rigging and manipulating the market….shocked I tell ya.

Is anything in our transportation system working properly since Mayor Pete took over as Transportation Secretary?

I no longer attribute all these "everything going wrong at once" to bad luck or incompetence. An enemy combatant couldn't have done a better job creating chaotic conditions to undermine the nation.
