Billionaire Mark Cuban’s new drug company has shown how the U.S. government could have saved billions of dollars in just a few months.
Cuban’s newest venture, Cost Plus Drugs, sells over 100 generic prescription medications at the cost of production, plus a 15% margin and $8 pharmacy dispensing and shipping fee. Medicare could have saved as much as $3.6 billion per year if it purchased the maximum quantity of generic drugs from Cost Plus Drugs, according to new research from Brigham and Women’s Hospital and Harvard Medical School.

Not exactly. It’s a $3 dispense fee. Most drugs are under $4.
The problem is the gov’t has no incentive to be efficient. Back in the 60’s when I finished grad school, one of my fellow students took a gov’t job in DC with a new agency. About 3 months into the job, his supervisor to everyone to slow down and let the “In Box” pile up for the next several days. Several days later, there was a “Surprise Visit” from the GAO. His supervisor walked the GAO person around pointing out how they couldn’t keep up with the work and he needed more staff.
My friend quickly learned that your position in DC is a direct correlation with the number of people you control. To work up to the Black Tie Invitations meant having a larger staff.
Methinks the same philosophy drives DC today. Oh, the newly-formed agency was the EPA.
Yep! Baseline budgeting creates a “perverse incentive” to spend the money! Which is why many of the Government Agencies spend exorbitant amounts of money on lavish “strategic Planning” event before fiscal year end. If they don’t spend it, they lose it! Their definition of “project success” is “spend the 💰!” Not meeting schedule, cost, or quality objectives
No worries about gummit overspending $1,000,000,000,000 a year as traitor McConnell is on the case for raising the debt ceiling again a few TRILLON so it will all be legal, and helping the drooling mental deficient Resident-in-Chief as he always does in the end.
Roughly $2,739,726,027 overspending a DAY (over a year) by the congress/senate annually at this rate.
Wouldn’t you love to have a President come out and say:
“Effective tomorrow, every Federal agency, with the exception of the military, has 10% less funds in their budget. If agency leaders cannot provide the same or improved performance with the new budget, I will find someone who can. Have a nice day.”
I think it’s cute how the article assumes that it’s government’s job to save money and be thrifty.
It’s government’s job to be a fiscal super-massive black hole.
Works the same in ALL governments, municipal, county, state and federal.
Sadly, 21.9 million workers are gov’t employees beholding to politicians for their jobs.
Thanks for your comments, econjack. What you say has a ring of truth.
And not just government either. Pretty much any company or organization is ranked the same way.
There is no such thing as a starving lobbyist. Their job is to grease as many palms as it takes to get what they want. The cost of doing business as well as their hefty salaries are passed on to us!
Saw that in the old Bell System and later in both AT&T and a Baby Bell. Fortunately, I was always labor in the field. Just couldn’t handle being inside or management.
Has he got any of that ivermectin?
