Just returned from Almaty. KZ borders Russia, China and Ukraine (among others) and is a major exporter of oil in joint ventures with western oil companies. So they walk a fine line.

Kazakhstan doesn’t have a border with Ukraine. Kazakhstan is a couple hundred miles east of Ukraine, and its farthest western border is in line with the Caspian Sea.
