The federal government could take action against U.S. airlines on behalf of customers, Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg said Saturday.
Many Americans have endured delays, cancelations, and other travel complications during the coronavirus pandemic, and in recent months, after many pandemic-related travel restrictions were lifted.
Following Buttigieg’s own flight being canceled, forcing him to drive from Washington to New York, he said his department has authority to enforce action against airlines that do not sufficiently maintain consumer-protection standards, potentially requiring them to hire more staff.
"That is happening to a lot of people, and that is exactly why we are paying close attention here to what can be done and how to make sure that the airlines are delivering," Buttigieg said during an interview with The Associated Press Saturday.

Like most here, I don’t have many good things to say about Amtrak, but one thing is that their Northeast Corridor pretty much world class (or close enough) and nearly as fast as flying.
So why was he flying?

Maybe he can hire some of the teachers who are quitting. There’s more security at airports, and that should make them feel better. And masks. Teachers to Pilots!
Didn’t the federal government cause the shortage ?
90% of the delay problems are with ATC. Within the last two months I’ve been delayed multiple times. Each time it was ATC controler shortage. Especially weekends and holidays. They reduced departures at EWR to one every 5 minutes for this a couple of week ago.
He definitely has the ability to hire more controlers.

Exactly. End the vaccine mandates around the country and publicly admit the vaccines neither stop the spread of Covid nor prevent the vaccinated from contracting it. Offer reemployment, with no loss of seniority or status, to those free American citizens who chose to retire or resign rather than submit to coercion. Recognize those who have natural immunity have superior protection to the RNA vaccines created by Big Pharma and bureaucrat collaborators at the CDC.

The military or National Guard, it takes time to get ATCs up to speed.
I said in another thread, it’s a crazy idea but the Democrats could take effective control over the Airline and Oil Industries basically nationalize them, selling the idea on the evil companies ripping off the public all in the name of profit.
