Two Uvalde cops passed up a chance to take out the gunman who killed 19 kids and two teachers at a Texas elementary school before he entered the building, according to a report.
The officers worked for the city, and one was armed with an AR-15-style rifle as the May 24 massacre at Robb Elementary School unfolded.
But they hesitated to open fire at Salvador Ramos because they did not want to hit any nearby children, Chief Deputy Ricardo Rios of the Zavalla County Sheriff’s office told The New York Times.

So who was telling them to stand down, and why? Ukraine not going as well as hoped? Perhaps the economy?
Probably should be removed from the force. If they can’t pass the shooting requirements they should be offered mall cop jobs.
On the subject of down range problems: Went to Yankee Stadium not long ago to watch the Yanks dismantle the poor Detroit tigers . There was heavy police presence with some cops in full gear holding full auto weapons. With 40 thousand fans swarming around (It was Aaron Judge bobblehead day)I couldn’t fathom what they were going to do with those things. Must be some tactical reason to have them.
I am not a trained officer and shoot my AR infrequently but it is a very accurate weapon and there is no excuse for not taking the shot if they had it.
I was thinking the same thing. Give me my 14 and pick which eye you want it in and I’ll get him surrounded by kids at 200 meters . And the kids won’t know what hit him. If it’s a side shot I can get him in both eyes with one stone , heh .
But, if they were uncertain of the shot, why didn't the move in close enough to be certain?
Anyone who has practiced with a rifle would know this.
They had one job.
But they hesitated to open fire at Salvador Ramos because they did not want to hit any nearby children, Chief Deputy Ricardo Rios of the Zavalla County Sheriff’s office told The New York Times.

Depending on how clear their shots really were, the bigger risk at the time could have been that the perp would continue shooting kids and officers and treatments of the wounded would be delayed.
Something tells me Ulvalde cops don’t score too high on their firearms proficiency exams.
If they were that chicken or inexperienced, then it’s best they didn’t take the shot. The sheriff should have gone in and done the job but he was too busy turning out his pockets hunting for his forgotten radio. The shooter knew more to bring his own radio.

Or just shoot it in the air twice like uncle Joe said
Like the man said, too heavy.
Every single cop there should be fired and brought up on charges
The public records Uvalde is trying to suppress include body camera footage, photos, 911 calls, emails, text messages, criminal records, and more.
Sounds like they’re putting the kaboosh on everything...total lockdown. Like they’re hiding more than police incompetence.
”We want the public to believe everything we tell them about this event...just don’t ask us any questions!”
That doesn’t make them look guilty.
Overpenetration. That 7.62x51 will *not* stop inside a skull.
If you are talking about a Mini-14, well...
